Job description

Cyborn is looking for a senior gameplay developer experienced in Unreal Engine Behavior Trees, Blackboards and Anim Blueprints to build the NPC behaviour and character animation systems for our ambitious new VR action-adventure title. You will implement systems designed by our game designer and creative director, working in a close-knit iterative loop where fun systems are prototyped, tested, refined and born together.

What will you do

  • You will implement enemy and NPC behaviour based on designs from the game designer and creative director, using Behavior Trees, Blackboards and perception systems (line-of-sight, alarm states, patrol, guard and attack behaviour).
  • You will build and maintain Animation Blueprints, montages, blend spaces and state machines for player and NPC characters.
  • You will implement melee and ranged combat systems (hit detection, reactions, timing windows, weapon handling) tuned for VR.
  • You will work in a tight iteration loop with design, creative direction and animation: build, test in-headset, refine - until it’s fun.
  • You communicate daily with the production manager.

Requirements

  • You have several years of professional game development experience and have shipped at least one title, preferably in the action-adventure genre.
  • You have deep hands-on experience with Unreal Engine Behavior Trees, Blackboards and Anim Blueprints.
  • You have proven experience building melee combat systems (strong plus).
  • You have a collaborative mindset: you enjoy translating a designer’s vision into working systems and iterating on feedback, rather than owning design yourself.
  • You have experience with VR game development (bonus).
  • You know how to work with source control.
  • You are a problem solver with proactive technical skills.
  • You have a positive work drive and can work efficiently towards tight deadlines.
  • You are willing to work on location in Antwerp, Belgium.
