Job description

  • Supports and maintains County infrastructure with a specialized focus on supported services and public safety systems.
  • Responsibilities include supporting network connectivity, mobile access solutions, enterprise systems, real-time data solutions (such as Computer Aided Dispatch) and associated platforms utilized by external law enforcement and fire agencies.
  • Serves as a technical liaison between the County and participating agencies, providing support primarily to agency IT staff while occasionally assisting end users.
  • Contributes to the delivery and growth of the County’s enterprise service offerings by ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable access to shared systems., * Core Infrastructure Support: Provides Tier 2 technical support for County and supported agency systems and applications. Assists in administration and support of Local Area Networks, servers, and cloud-based services. Installs, configures, and maintains system software patches and updates. Monitors system performance, backups, and availability. Troubleshoots network, server, and endpoint issues escalated from Customer Service staff.
  • Managed Services & Public Safety Systems Support: Supports systems that enable external agencies to access County-hosted applications, including CAD, mobile data platforms, and real-time information services. Assists with configuration, testing, and support of mobile and remote access solutions (e.g., VPN, secure wireless, virtual desktop, and cellular connectivity). Monitors and troubleshoots connectivity between County systems and external agency environments. Works primarily with agency IT contacts to resolve technical issues; provides limited direct end-user support as needed. Provides coordinated support to agencies and third parties in the implementation and onboarding to County managed systems.
  • Network & Connectivity Support: Assists with support and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewall, and remote access technologies. Coordinates with senior engineering staff for network configuration changes and complex issue resolution. Helps validate secure connectivity between partner agencies and County systems. Supports documentation and standardization of connectivity models for repeatable agency onboarding.
  • Coordination & Vendor Engagement: Coordinates with third-party vendors supporting County managed systems, telephony, and related public safety systems. Assists in troubleshooting multi-vendor issues involving infrastructure, applications, and connectivity. Escalates complex issues appropriately and tracks through resolution.
  • Documentation & Service Development: Documents system configurations, support procedures, and agency-specific environments. Assists in developing standards and best practices for managed services delivery. Recommends improvements to enhance reliability, security, and scalability of services.
  • Other Duties: Provides scheduled after-hours support during system implementations, upgrades, or critical incidents. Completes special projects and assignments as requested.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Wireless networking?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in IT support and infrastructure; OR

  • Associate degree in a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent and seven years of progressively responsible experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of network fundamentals, including LAN/WAN, VPN, wireless, and basic routing and switching concepts.
  • Experience supporting remote connectivity and distributed environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues involving County systems, vendors, and external agencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical contacts and partner agencies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with public safety systems and security best practices for remote access and inter-agency connectivity preferred.
  • CompTIA, ISC2, GIAC, or other entry-level security certifications preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass background and security checks with no felony convictions.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and carry 20+ pounds, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary to support partner agencies.
