Job description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing mechanical designs from customer requirements through to finished products.

Working as part of a close-knit engineering team, you will collaborate with internal departments including Production, Purchasing, Installation and Sales to deliver practical, cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements and industry standards.

This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of bespoke projects, giving you exposure to the full engineering lifecycle and the satisfaction of seeing your designs become fully manufactured products., * Design bespoke mechanical equipment using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.

  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings and technical documentation.
  • Develop concepts from customer specifications, requirements and site information.
  • Complete engineering calculations and design checks where required.
  • Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient to produce.
  • Support product improvements, design reviews and engineering projects.
  • Assist with component selection, cost considerations and supplier discussions.
  • Provide technical support to installation and service teams when required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a practical and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys solving engineering challenges and developing products for real-world applications.

You will have experience with:

  • Mechanical design and product development
  • 3D CAD packages (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Fabricated steel structures
  • Sheet metal and welded assemblies
  • Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  • Production and manufacturing drawings
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) creation
  • Engineering calculations
  • Working closely with manufacturing environments

Experience within any of the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Bespoke machinery design
  • Special purpose machinery
  • Lifting equipment
  • Materials handling systems
  • Hydraulic systems
