Job description

Join our dynamic engineering team as a Sr. Functional Designer Electrical, where you will play a pivotal role in designing, planning, and integrating cutting-edge electrical systems for advanced marine vessels. Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design assignments, ensuring all solutions meet contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and produce complex, fabrication-ready layouts and integrated functional drawings.
  • Review and approve peers drawings, providing guidance and resolving design conflicts.
  • Ensure quality and regulatory compliance to minimize rework and maintain high standards.
  • Draft and design advanced electrical systems under the supervision of a Cognizant Electrical Engineer.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and data management related to all electrical designs.
  • Create innovative, cost-effective solutions for vessel development and integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and vendors to ensure seamless design compatibility.
  • Support and attend meetings with regulatory agencies such as the USCG.
  • Mentor junior designers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Prepare technical reports and respond to regulatory inquiries as needed.

Requirements

5+ years experience in electrical design, shipbuilding, and production processes, or 3+ years experience with an Associate s Degree in 3D Modeling/Design Technology, Electrical Field, or equivalent.

  • Proficient in marine electrical design, maritime regulatory compliance, and electrical power system analysis.
  • Skilled in creating electrical one-line diagrams (EOL), block diagrams, and elementary wiring diagrams.
  • Strong experience with machinery control systems (MCS), auxiliary control systems (ACS), and integration across production teams.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, 3D electrical modeling, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of regulatory authorities (ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, IEEE).
  • Clear and effective communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners. Preferred Skills

  • In-depth understanding of shipboard power systems, Electrical Plant Load Analysis (EPLA), and marine industry materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience interacting with customer representatives, equipment manufacturers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proven ability to translate technical requirements into actionable data and deliverables.
