Job description

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY invites qualified applications for the position of Senior Systems Developer. Under the supervision of the Manager of Information Systems, the Senior Systems Developer is part of a multi-functional Information Systems team developing cross-system solutions for constituent campus units. This position’s main responsibilities involve development for and support of the daily business functions of the Ellucian Banner systems and related products. The Developer will have some further responsibility in supporting data analysis and reporting needs of College business units. This position has the possibility for a hybrid work location.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for Ellucian Banner and associated enterprise applications

  • Automation of Ellucian Banner & external processes using Automic, Batch, Powershell, CRON, etc.

  • Patch management for Ellucian Banner

  • Writing and maintaining PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, Oracle SQL & MS-SQL extracts, scripts, reports, queries, and various other SQL requests

  • Primary technical support of Ellucian Degree Works

  • Primary technical support and administration of eVisions Argos

  • Primary technical support of Student Academic records, as well as related state/federal reporting and filings (Clearinghouse, SIRIS reporting)

  • Assist with day-to-day production troubleshooting & resolve urgent programmatic issues by triaging and resolving help desk tickets assigned to Information Systems

  • Generate & maintain technical documentation

  • Work with third party contacts to update and maintain external systems

  • Collaborating with Information Technology staff members in the introduction of new technologies and support of students and staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related area

  • At least three (3) to four (4) years of applicable programming experience, with evidence of progression in responsibilities

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner tables and/or administrative computing

  • Experience with Oracle SQL, PL/SQL or other SQL platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ellucian Degree Works

  • Experience with the SUNY system and their ITEC and SICAS organizations

  • Experience with SUNY school SIRIS reporting

  • Experience requesting upgrades for hosted environments in the SUNY system

  • Experience with Banner 9 SSB functionality

  • Experience with a UNIX/LINUX command line environment (SQL PLUS)

  • Experience with PHP

  • Experience with ARGOS report writing and other eVisions products

  • Experience with administering Ellucian Banner systems and their security model

  • Experience with Ellucian automation via Automic

  • Experience with Batch, Powershell, Python

  • Ability to manage multiple, deadline-driven assignments effectively

  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively with students, faculty and staff

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
