Job description

Robert Half is proactively recruiting experienced IT Support Technicians for upcoming opportunities supporting public safety organizations and municipal agencies. These roles are ideal for hands-on IT professionals who enjoy working in both office and field environments, supporting mission-critical technology that first responders rely on every day.

This position blends desktop support, infrastructure maintenance, field service, and mobile technology support. Successful candidates will be comfortable troubleshooting hardware, installing network cabling, supporting patrol vehicle technology, and ensuring reliable operation of systems that directly impact public safety.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for desktop hardware, software, and enterprise applications
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows workstations, laptops, printers, and peripherals
  • Install software updates, patches, and perform routine system maintenance
  • Support web-based applications including reporting, records, and evidence management systems
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot Ethernet, fiber, and coaxial network cabling
  • Maintain IT equipment rooms, communication closets, racks, and infrastructure hardware
  • Perform workstation deployments, office moves, and technology refresh projects
  • Configure and support mobile devices and endpoint technologies
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot in-vehicle technology including mobile computers, camera systems, and related equipment
  • Diagnose connectivity issues affecting patrol vehicles and mobile work environments
  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory and asset management records
  • Document technical issues, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions
  • Escalate advanced infrastructure or security issues to senior IT staff when necessary

Requirements

  • Experience supporting Windows desktop environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and peripheral devices
  • Knowledge of desktop deployment, imaging, and workstation configuration
  • Basic networking knowledge including IP addressing, network connectivity, and VLAN concepts
  • Experience installing or troubleshooting structured cabling (Cat6, fiber, or coaxial)
  • Experience supporting mobile devices and endpoint technologies
  • Strong hardware repair and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple technical issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills

Preferred Experience

  • Public safety, government, or municipal IT environments
  • Mobile data terminals (MDTs) or in-vehicle technology
  • Digital evidence management systems
  • Security camera systems
  • Asset management and inventory control
  • Field service or onsite infrastructure support
  • Microsoft 365 and Active Directory administration
