Job description

The Visual LANSA Developer will support the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications in a fully remote capacity. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in Visual LANSA, strong proficiency within the IBM i (AS/400) ecosystem, and the ability to deliver high-quality technical solutions in a structured corporate environment. This role requires professionalism, technical leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams.

Job Function

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using Visual LANSA, RDML/RDMLX, and associated LANSA frameworks.
  • Modernize and optimize existing LANSA-based systems, ensuring alignment with corporate architecture standards.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and technical teams to translate business requirementsinto robust technical solutions.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of application issues across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Ensure adherence to established development methodologies, coding standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Participate in architectural reviews, technical planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in scheduled virtual meetings, project reviews, and cross-departmental collaboration sessions.
  • Support integration efforts between LANSA applications and external systems, including internal enterprise platforms and third-party solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation, system specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, security standards, audit requirements, and safety protocols.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience with Visual LANSA, including component-based development and reusable parts required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Extensive experience working within IBM i (AS/400) environments, including DB2/400, CL programming concepts, and system operations required.
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, SQL, and data modeling principles required.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical challenges and deliver effective, scalable solutions required.
  • Proven success working in a remote corporate environment with strong communication, accountability, and time-management skills required.
  • Experience integrating LANSA applications with enterprise systems or service-based architectures required.
  • Experience with LANSA Integrator, LANSA Composer, or LANSA-based web technologies preferred.
  • Exposure to modernization initiatives within IBM i environments, including refactoring or re-engineering legacy applications preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for a corporate environment required.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple time zones required.
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality required.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate technical options and propose sound recommendations required.
