Job description

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Money Movement - Innovation team, you’ll build the systems behind NMI’s bank-to-bank payments: public APIs, internal tools, and third-party integrations, using Scala, TypeScript, and C#, with TDD and containerized microservices on AWS (Docker, Lambda, ECS). You’ll work AI-first, using tools like Claude Code daily and helping the team sharpen how it uses them. We’re looking for someone who digs into ambiguous, high-stakes problems and owns them end to end. About the team:

The Innovation team sits at the center of NMI’s money movement strategy. Formed through NMI’s acquisition of Dwolla, we build and evolve the bank payment platform NMI’s partners rely on, spanning open banking, push-to-card, account verification, and new payment rail integrations.

We work asynchronously, communicate often, and expect blockers to be surfaced early. Psychological safety and continuous improvement are how we keep our high pace sustainable.

You will:

  • Design and develop applications in Scala, TypeScript, and C#
  • Use AI-first tools like Claude Code to research approaches, generate code, and strengthen review and testing
  • Own code quality and production issues: reviews, bug reports, and troubleshooting
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions with stakeholders and your team
  • Participate in agile ceremonies (refinement, planning, standups, retros) and help improve how the team works
  • Apply system design expertise across messaging (RabbitMQ), data at scale (SQL, S3), database/caching (RDS, Redis, DynamoDB), and CI/CD (Git, Jenkins, CloudFormation, Terraform)

Requirements

  • Strong grasp of programming languages, techniques, security, and architecture
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned work and complete it without close oversight
  • Experience with AI-first coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Copilot)
  • Experience mentoring and participating in code reviews
  • 4+ years developing applications with object-oriented or functional languages
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field), or 4+ years of additional equivalent experience, * Working knowledge of distributed system design: event-driven microservices, containerized apps, service discovery
  • Experience with Agile practices
  • Experience with TDD and Continuous Integration
  • Experience with paired programming or mobbing
  • Experience with Scala, cats, or other functional programming tools and libraries
  • Experience building and sharing AI skills or similar
  • Exposure to ACH, payments, or other reliable/secure systems is a plus

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary + bonus
  • A remote first culture!
  • Flex PTO
  • Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • 13 Paid Holidays
  • Company volunteer days
