Job description

This role supports upcoming customer programs by leading hardware design activities and ensuring that electrical architectures and products meet performance, cost, and quality targets. The engineer will use Allegro or Altium to develop production-ready electrical schematics and bills of materials, collaborate closely with global cross-functional teams, and represent the design function in technical reviews and program discussions. The position requires fluency in English and hands-on experience with GM system architecture, product development workflows, and cross-functional collaboration. Responsibilities

  • Create and release electrical schematics and bills of materials (BOMs) in Allegro that meet customer requirements and are ready for production.
  • Review printed circuit board (PCB) layouts with the layout engineer, including component placement, routing, stack-up, manufacturability, and compliance with design rules.
  • Work directly with U.S.-based Tier-2 suppliers and manufacturing partners to support design execution, prototype builds, issue resolution, and production launch activities.
  • Represent the design team in GM electrical engineering (EE) reviews, EMC reviews, technical discussions, design presentations, and problem-resolution meetings.
  • Lead request-for-quotation (RFQ) activities by developing BOMs, analyzing costs, obtaining supplier quotes, and optimizing designs to meet program cost targets.
  • Plan and execute hardware validation of initial LAM samples, including troubleshooting, data analysis, root-cause investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Lead Hardware Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) activities and ensure risks are identified, mitigated, documented, and tracked throughout development.
  • Support resiliency redesign efforts through component sourcing, alternative part qualification, cost reduction initiatives, and supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables and technical communication across global teams to ensure program milestones and customer requirements are met.
  • Manage engineering changes, including design updates, documentation releases, issue tracking, and adherence to established development processes.
  • Collaborate closely with Validation, Systems, Product Engineering, Program Management, LAM, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and suppliers to ensure successful program execution and on-time delivery of project milestones.

  • Hands-on experience with GM system architecture and an understanding of how electrical systems integrate within vehicle platforms.
  • Proficiency in creating and releasing electrical schematics and BOMs using Allegro.
  • Experience reviewing and guiding PCB layout activities, including component placement, routing, stack-up, manufacturability, and design rule compliance.
  • Background as a hardware engineer with practical experience in hardware design and development.
  • Ability to lead RFQ activities, including BOM development, cost analysis, supplier quote evaluation, and design optimization to meet cost targets.
  • Experience planning and executing hardware validation, including troubleshooting, data analysis, root-cause investigation, and corrective action implementation.
  • Knowledge of Hardware DFMEA processes and risk management throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience coordinating engineering deliverables and technical communication across global, cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage engineering changes, including design updates, documentation control, issue tracking, and adherence to defined development workflows.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Allegro or Altium for schematic capture and PCB-related activities.
  • Experience working with U.S.-based Tier-2 suppliers and manufacturing partners on design execution and production launch.
  • Familiarity with GM product development workflows and review processes, including EE and EMC reviews.
  • Experience in component sourcing, alternative part qualification, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Understanding of supply chain risk mitigation strategies for hardware components.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working alongside Validation, Systems, Product Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and supplier teams.
  • Ability to represent engineering in design presentations and problem-resolution meetings with internal and external stakeholders.

Work Environment

The engineer works in a collaborative, cross-functional environment that spans global teams and external suppliers. Daily activities involve using industry-standard electronic design tools such as Allegro or Altium for schematics and BOM management, and partnering closely with layout engineers, validation teams, and manufacturing partners to move designs from concept through prototype and into production. The role includes participation in technical reviews, EMC and EE discussions, and problem-solving sessions, with a strong focus on structured product development processes, documentation control, and continuous improvement. Work is primarily office-based and technology-driven, with regular virtual and in-person interactions across engineering, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, and supplier organizations to ensure that program milestones and customer requirements are consistently achieved.
