The Clark County Information Technology Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Geographic Information Systems Technician I/II position. As a GIS Technician, you will receive ongoing guidance from the GIS Management team and tackle a variety of exciting tasks: designing detailed maps, keeping data current, managing the Vote Center web application, processing annexations, maintaining voter registration address information, and mastering the Elections GIS processes for voter registration. Youāll also engage in meaningful GIS customer service, assisting both internal departments and the public. Be part of a team that values innovation, accuracy, and public service., * Creates and modifies data files by entering electronically converted data into appropriate database system.
- Produces cadastral maps, plots, graphic simulation, and manuscript data for use by various County departments and local agencies.
- Reviews recorded documentation for right-of-way, zoning and other county agencies and determines if valid transfer or division of land has been made; ensures compliance with all appropriate statutes and ordinances.
- Makes manual and/or visual checks of preliminary data and final products to ensure quality control of all data entering the system.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of work performed; updates such records as procedures are modified.
- Makes adjustments and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment required for data entry and output production; reports the need for maintenance or repair.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unitās service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Attends training meetings and upgrades knowledge of GIS system use; applies and documents new techniques as they are implemented.
- May drive a personal or County vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation to attend off-site meetings.
- Some positions may drive a motor vehicle in order to validate road conditions.
Requirements
Education and Experience: Geographic Information Systems Technician I - Equivalent to completion of an Associateās Degree OR technical school with major course work in drafting, pre-engineering, computer science or geographic studies or a closely related field. Full-time experience in digitizing data or working with geographic information system data may be substituted for the education on a year for year basis.
Geographic Information Systems Technician II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time technical experience in entering data and producing finished documents using a geographic information system. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the āEducationā and āWork Experienceā sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.
Licensing and Certifications: Specified positions must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driverās License at time of appointment. Certifications must be current at time of application and maintained throughout employment.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent on the results of a pre-employment drug examination., Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
