Job description

The Technology Services team is responsible for ensuring that Richmond Public Schools’ technology resources are functioning efficiently and meet the needs of the RPS community. The Desktop Technician supports this work remotely and hands-on maintenance of computer technology and peripherals., * Provide Tier I technical support to staff and students via phone, email, remote, and in-person assistance.

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop computers, laptops, printers, audiovisual equipment, and other technology devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network connectivity, and user account issues, including password resets and access permissions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the reliability, security, and longevity of technology resources.
  • Document support requests, resolutions, and activities in the district’s ticketing system.
  • Collaborate with internal Technology Services teams to resolve complex technical issues and ensure effective service delivery.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff and students on the effective use of technology resources and district-supported applications.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and administrators to identify technology needs, provide timely updates, and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Research and resolve technical issues using departmental resources, established procedures, and best practices.
  • Adhere to departmental standards, procedures, and service-level expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Desktop and Service Desk or Technology Services leadership.

Qualifications:

Minimum Associate degree required (information technology-related preferred or related field preferred. Relevant work experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.

A+ Certification

  • Network+ Certification
  • Google IT Support Professional Certificate
  • HDI Certification
  • Other relevant industry-recognized certifications in IT or A/V technology
  • Valid Driver’s License

This position operates in diverse settings, including offices, classrooms, meeting rooms, event spaces. The role may also require working in varying climates, including temperature-controlled environments and non-climate-controlled areas such as warehouses or outdoor locations. Flexibility and adaptability to different physical environments are necessary.
