IT Director

The City of Cortez is hiring an IT Director to provide enterprise-wide technology vision and leadership, ensuring City systems and services support strategic objectives and reliable operations., * Set and execute IT strategy aligned to City goals; translate priorities into roadmaps and budgets

• Lead enterprise deployments across software, hardware, and infrastructure; ensure steady service delivery
• Oversee networking, cloud computing, data centers, and cybersecurity programs
• Manage vendor partnerships, procurement, and contract negotiations
• Mentor and develop a diverse IT team; communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, You’ll start by scanning overnight system alerts and checking in on any after-hours issues that required on-call support. Mornings often include quick touchpoints with department leaders to confirm priorities, then time to review project status, timelines, and vendor deliverables. Midday may involve evaluating a new tool or approach, balancing risk, cost, and public-service impact, and preparing clear updates for non-technical audiences. In the afternoon, you’ll shift between coaching staff, coordinating across departments, and validating that core communication and information systems remain stable. As needs arise, you’ll pivot to resolve complex issues and keep City services moving forward.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field (or equivalent combination)
• 5+ years of progressively responsible IT experience emphasizing networking, cybersecurity, server virtualization, and IT operations
• Proven success delivering enterprise-level projects; strong troubleshooting and decision-making under pressure
• Valid Colorado Driver’s license
