Job description
Our client is building next-generation electric vehicle technologies and is seeking a Senior Embedded Platform Engineer to develop the real-time firmware foundation that powers safety-critical vehicle systems. This role is responsible for designing robust, deterministic embedded software that enables actuators, motor drives, battery management systems (BMS), sensors, and vehicle control systems to operate reliably.
You will own the low-level embedded software stack, including Board Support Packages (BSPs), hardware abstraction layers, RTOS/bare-metal execution, peripheral drivers, hardware bring-up, diagnostics, and communication infrastructure. Working closely with Electrical, Controls, Systems, and Software Engineering teams, you’ll help create reusable embedded platforms that support current and future vehicle programs., Real-Time Firmware Development
- Design, develop, and maintain real-time embedded firmware for safety-critical control systems.
- Architect deterministic firmware execution, interrupt handling, task scheduling, and timing-sensitive software.
- Develop reusable embedded software frameworks that support communication, diagnostics, monitoring, and system integration.
- Optimize firmware for reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
BSP & Low-Level Driver Development
- Develop embedded software in Embedded C/C++ on real-time microcontroller platforms such as TI C2000, NXP, or comparable safety-oriented MCUs.
- Design and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs), Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL), peripheral initialization, and device configuration.
- Develop and debug drivers for:
- CAN / CAN FD
- SPI
- Ethernet
- ADC
- PWM
- GPIO
- Timers
- Watchdogs
- UART
- I2C
Hardware Bring-Up & Debugging
- Support board bring-up, hardware validation, and low-level debugging.
- Troubleshoot issues involving MCU configuration, clocks, interrupts, peripherals, sensors, motor drives, BMS interfaces, and communication links.
- Collaborate with Electrical and Systems Engineering teams to ensure reliable hardware/software integration.
Communication & Diagnostics
- Develop and maintain embedded communication infrastructure supporting:
- CAN
- CAN FD
- SPI
- Ethernet
- ARINC 825
- Implement diagnostics, fault detection, recovery mechanisms, and reliable message handling.
Integration & Validation
- Support firmware integration with motor control, battery management systems, sensors, and vehicle software.
- Develop debug interfaces, logging capabilities, automated test hooks, and data collection tools.
- Support System Integration, SIL, HIL, and laboratory validation testing.
Functional Safety
- Participate in requirements development, verification planning, traceability, and configuration management.
- Support software development processes aligned with safety-critical standards including DO-178C, ARP4754A/ARP4761, ISO 26262, or equivalent.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience developing embedded firmware for complex real-time systems.
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++.
- Experience developing firmware on real-time microcontroller platforms such as TI C2000, NXP, or similar safety-oriented MCUs.
- Strong understanding of:
- RTOS and/or bare-metal systems
- Interrupts
- Timers
- Watchdogs
- Memory architecture
- ADC
- PWM
- GPIO
- Embedded communication interfaces
- Hands-on experience with communication protocols including CAN, CAN FD, SPI, Ethernet, UART, or ARINC 825.
- Experience supporting hardware bring-up, board validation, and system-level debugging.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with hardware/software integration., * Experience with TI C2000 or NXP real-time control microcontrollers.
- Background in electric vehicles, automotive, aerospace, robotics, industrial automation, or other safety-critical industries.
- Experience with:
- Motor control
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Power electronics
- Embedded sensors
- Vehicle control systems
- Familiarity with functional safety standards including:
- DO-178C
- ARP4754A / ARP4761
- ISO 26262
