Job description

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Platform Engineer to develop the real-time firmware foundation for next-generation safety-critical embedded systems. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain low-level embedded software that enables reliable communication between hardware and higher-level control applications.

You will own key components of the embedded platform, including board support packages (BSPs), device drivers, RTOS architecture, hardware abstraction layers, and communication infrastructure across microcontroller-based systems. This position works closely with electrical, controls, systems, and software engineering teams to deliver deterministic, high-performance firmware supporting advanced embedded control applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop real-time embedded firmware using C/C++ for safety-critical systems.
  • Architect and maintain embedded platform software, including BSPs, hardware abstraction layers, and reusable firmware frameworks.
  • Develop low-level drivers for peripherals including CAN, SPI, Ethernet, ADC, PWM, GPIO, timers, watchdogs, and other MCU interfaces.
  • Support board bring-up, hardware validation, and low-level debugging across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Configure and optimize interrupt handling, task scheduling, memory usage, timing, and deterministic execution.
  • Develop communication infrastructure supporting protocols such as CAN, CAN FD, SPI, Ethernet, and ARINC 825.
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and systems engineers to integrate firmware with actuators, sensors, battery management systems (BMS), motor drives, and vehicle-level hardware.
  • Develop diagnostic capabilities, logging, debug interfaces, and automation tools supporting laboratory testing and system validation.
  • Support Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing activities.
  • Participate in requirements development, verification planning, configuration management, traceability, and safety-focused development processes., This is an opportunity to build the embedded platform that serves as the foundation for advanced, safety-critical control systems. Your work will directly impact system reliability, deterministic performance, and the successful integration of hardware and software across next-generation technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • 5+ years of experience developing embedded firmware for complex real-time systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++.
  • Experience developing software on real-time microcontroller platforms such as TI C2000, NXP, STM32, Infineon, Renesas, or similar.
  • Experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal embedded software development.
  • Strong understanding of embedded architectures, interrupts, memory management, clocks, timers, watchdogs, ADC, PWM, GPIO, and communication peripherals.
  • Experience developing or maintaining Board Support Packages (BSPs), hardware abstraction layers, or embedded drivers.
  • Hands-on experience with communication protocols including CAN, CAN FD, SPI, Ethernet, UART, I2C, or ARINC 825.
  • Experience supporting hardware bring-up, board validation, firmware integration, and low-level debugging.
  • Experience working closely with hardware and electrical engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills., * Experience with TI C2000 or NXP microcontrollers.
  • Background in aerospace, automotive, defense, robotics, industrial automation, or other safety-critical industries.
  • Familiarity with DO-178C, ARP4754/4761, ISO 26262, or comparable functional safety standards.
  • Experience developing reusable embedded software frameworks and middleware.
  • Experience supporting motor control, battery management systems (BMS), power electronics, sensors, or actuator control.
  • Experience supporting production launches, manufacturing, and long-term platform maintenance.
  • Familiarity with HIL/SIL testing environments and embedded debugging tools such as JTAG, Segger, Lauterbach, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers.
