Job description

If you’ve completed a tech bootcamp or have less than a year’s experience in software development, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

As a _nology consultant, you’ll join a community of early-career technology professionals, receiving ongoing mentoring, training, and support from a dedicated onsite manager while gaining hands-on experience with leading organisations delivering critical public sector projects.

There will be a short training period remotely with _nology preparing you for the client project, providing you with the skills needed to be successful in your new tech career. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in Java software development.

You’ll be supported to develop your technical skills while working alongside experienced engineering teams, contributing to real-world applications and solving meaningful business challenges.

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for technology, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to continue learning in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

After successful completion of training and starting the client project the starting salary is £ 26,700 with payrises at 6-months and 12-months based on performance.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the development, testing, and maintenance of software applications
  • Working across backend and front-end components to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Building and enhancing Java applications within agile delivery teams
  • Developing and consuming APIs and integrating with databases and other systems
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and supporting defect resolution
  • Applying software engineering best practices to improve code quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Collaborating with developers, testers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to support project delivery
  • Contributing to the design, development, and deployment of applications within cloud-based environments

Requirements

We’re looking for early-career candidates who can demonstrate knowledge or exposure to:

  • Java development and object-oriented programming principles
  • Full-stack development concepts and modern software engineering practices
  • Java frameworks such as Spring Boot or similar technologies
  • REST APIs and microservices architecture
  • SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Version control tools such as Git
  • Cloud platforms, particularly AWS
  • Development tools and agile ways of working

You do not need deep commercial experience. We’re interested in candidates who have built foundational software development knowledge through bootcamps, personal projects, internships, placements, or early professional experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Located in Newcastle or within a 1-hour commutable distance
  • Training is remote and successful candidates after training will be required to attend an office a minimum of 3 days per week
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance, or able to meet clearance requirements
  • Strong communication, professional, and collaborative skills
  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing within a professional technology environment
  • Immediate availability for full-time training, * Coding Bootcamp graduates with hands-on experience in Java development, OR STEM graduates from disciplines such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or related fields who are eager to build a career in software engineering.
  • Exposure to Java development through academic work, commercial experience, bootcamps, internships, placements, or personal projects.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software development fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Java frameworks and development tools such as Spring Boot, REST APIs, Git, Maven, or similar technologies would be beneficial.
  • Exposure to databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and an interest in full-stack development would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AWS or cloud technologies, or a willingness to develop cloud platform expertise.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a genuine enthusiasm for technology and continuous learning.
  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn and grow within a consulting environment.
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance, or able to meet security clearance requirements.
