Job description

The System Engineer II supports the reliability, availability, security, and continuous improvement of enterprise cloud infrastructure and platform services. This role is responsible for supporting Azure and/or AWS cloud operations, contributing to basic cloud solution design, automating infrastructure deployment through Infrastructure as Code, and assisting with the provisioning and operational support of AI services in Azure including Microsoft Foundry. The position partners with project managers, business owners, application teams, and senior engineers to deliver scalable, secure, and well-documented technology solutions aligned with business requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • Support day-to-day operations, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and service reliability for Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • Assist with basic design, deployment, configuration, patching, and optimization of cloud infrastructure and platform services.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute Infrastructure as Code usingAzure Bicep and Azure CLI (or PowerShell) to support repeatable, secure, and consistent deployments.
  • Support provisioning and operational readiness of AI services in Azure including Microsoft Foundry including environment setup, access coordination, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Work with project managers, business owners, and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver cloud platform capabilities aligned with business needs.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, standards, runbooks, and support materials.
  • Participate in change management, production readiness, availability management, and incident response processes to improve service delivery.
  • Contribute to process improvement efforts by identifying automation opportunities, reducing manual tasks, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and architects on technical recommendations, cloud standards, security practices, and platform improvements.
  • Provide customer-focused technical support and communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure costs, identify optimization opportunities, and support chargeback/cost allocation across business units.
  • Maintain and configure monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (Azure Monitor, Application Insights, CloudWatch, etc.) to ensure visibility and rapid incident detection.
  • Support security patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance control implementation across cloud environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in Information Technology within an enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure or enterprise platforms in a medium to large IT organization.
  • Working knowledge of Azure and/or AWS cloud operations , including compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, security, and cost-aware operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code , preferably Azure Bicep and Azure CLI (or PowerShell).
  • Ability to support basic cloud design patterns, environment configuration, deployment automation, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of technology control processes such as change management, production acceptance, availability management, and incident/problem management.
  • Ability to create technical documentation, process flows, test plans, and operational runbooks.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, execute against project plans, and deliver assigned tasks within established timelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Foundry , Azure AI services, AI model deployment, AI service provisioning, or related AI platform operations.
  • Familiarity with AI operations concepts, responsible AI practices, model lifecycle support, prompt engineering, or operational monitoring for AI-enabled services.
  • Experience using or supporting AI coding agents or developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, Claude Code, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, Git-based workflows, and automated deployment processes.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, Azure CLI, or AWS CLI.
  • Familiarity with cloud security practices, identity and access management, logging, monitoring, policy enforcement, and compliance controls.
  • Relevant cloud or AI certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Developer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure AI Engineer Associate, Azure Fundamentals, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS SysOps Administrator, or Terraform Associate.

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical tasks and cloud platform capabilities.
  • Ability to support fit/gap analysis, test planning, production readiness, and operational handoff activities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot across applications, cloud infrastructure, identity, networking, and automation layers.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior engineers, architects, application teams, operations teams, and business partners.
  • Strong documentation discipline and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new cloud, automation, and AI platform technologies.
  • Adaptability, sound judgment, ownership mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong attention to detail for security compliance, audit requirements, and control implementation.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during production incidents and outages.

Benefits & conditions

The typical annual salary range for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.

$85,000.00 - $124,000.00
