Job description

  • You will function as a network administrator for the network infrastructure in an intermediate developmental level or full performance level.
  • You will receive training and progress toward more complex assignments to develop technical skills and experience geared toward performance at the target grade level.
  • You will ensure existing telecommunications and communications inter-networking hardware, such as firewalls, routers, switches, gateways, and security appliances are communicating properly to maintain system access and functionality.
  • You will troubleshoot problems with communication and telecommunications equipment.
  • You will maintain communication/telecommunications security, wide-area network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity connections.
  • You will perform configuration changes and updates for both hardware and software throughout the infrastructures.
  • You will analyze logs, investigate and report all suspicious activity to higher authority.
  • You will ensure smooth, transparent upgrading of LAN software, and oversee the testing of new configurations to ensure risk is minimized for the organization.
  • You will maintain LAN management and system support software, including application software to meet special requirements of the organization by assessing the benefits and risk to various configurations.
  • You will configure software and auditing thresholds and performs routine auditing of system software.
  • You will diagnose system failures, isolating, correcting, and advising responsible vendors of problems as appropriate under existing support or maintenance contracts.

Requirements

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) Installing, configuring, and administrating network switches, routers, and firewalls; 2) Maintaining and upgrading network infrastructure hardware and software; and 3) Troubleshooting and resolving network system problems to support the organization.

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) Installing, configuring, and administrating network switches, routers, and firewalls; 2) Maintaining, upgrading, and securing network infrastructure hardware and software; 3) Conducting operational analysis and performance monitoring of the network infrastructure for optimum configuration; and 4) Troubleshooting and resolving network system problems to support the organization.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

The following can be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualification requirements of this position:

GS-11 Level:You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR you have successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-9 Level: You have successfully completed a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree OR you have successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
