Job description
Role: First Line IT Support Engineer, The successful candidate will provide first-line technical support to colleagues across the firm, assisting with hardware, software and Microsoft 365 issues, whilst gaining exposure to a wide range of technologies and IT projects., We believe our people are our greatest assets, and our It team plays a vital role in ensuring our colleagues can deliver an exceptional service to our clients.
In return, we offer:
- Salary of £24,000 - £26,000 depending on experience

- Provide first-line technical support to colleagues across the firm via telephone, email, remote support and in-person
- Log, priorities and resolve IT support requests through the helpdesk system
- Troubleshoot hardware, printer, mobile device and peripheral issues
- Escalate more complex technical issues where appropriate
User Administration
- Assist with creating and managing user accounts within Microsoft 365 and Active Directory
- Reset passwords and maintain user permissions
- Support mailbox administrational user onboarding/offboarding
Hardware Support
- Prepare, configure and deploy laptops, desktops, monitors, mobile phones and other IT equipment
- Install and configure approved software applications
- Maintain IT equipment inventory and asset records
- Assist with hardware replacements and office moves
Infrastructure Support
- Assist the wider IT team with routine maintenance of servers, cloud services and network infrastructure
- Support Microsoft 365 services including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive
- Assist with software updates and security patching
- Help maintain remote access solutions including VPN and Citirix
Projects
- Support IT projects including hardware refreshes, software deployments and office relocations
- Assist with testing and implementing new technologies
- Liaise with third-party suppliers where required
Documentation & Security
- Keep accurate record within the IT helpdesk system
- Produce user guides and technical documentation where appropriate
- Follow all IT security policies and report any security concerns promptly
- Promote good cyber security practices across the firm.
Travel
- Travel to GT Stewart offices across England to provide onsite support and assist with IT installations and maintenance when required., We have a dedicated in-bound telephony team to take calls and messages for our fee earners. Lawyers also have the benefit of dictation and support staff to assist in easing the pressure and enabling efficient working.
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience within an IT support or service desk environment
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Experience supporting Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications
- Experience configuring laptops, desktops and printers
- Basic understanding of Active Directory
- Basic networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to priorities workload and work independently
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel
Desirable
- Experience supporting Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
- Exposure to Microsoft Intune or Mobile Device Management
- Experience supporting Citrix environments
- Experience supporting cloud-based telephony systems
- Knowledge of legal case management systems such as Partner for Windows
- Microsoft, CompTIA or ITIL certifications
