Job description

My client has a requirement for a GIS Technician on an initial 12 month contract assignment - this role will be remote working.

Project Responsibilities

  • Assess existing GIS platforms, spatial databases, data models, schemas, storage environments, integrations, metadata, governance, quality issues, and technical constraints.

  • Develop or validate a GIS strategy aligned with organisational objectives, digital transformation initiatives, architecture, scalability, integration, automation, analytics, dashboards, reporting, and location-intelligence requirements.

  • Improve spatial dataset quality, accuracy, consistency, preparation, transformation, optimisation, stewardship, and maintenance.

  • Provide technical leadership for GIS application development, configuration, system integration, spatial analytics, web maps, dashboards, location-intelligence solutions, APIs, automation workflows, and data pipelines.

  • Advise on GIS data modelling, geospatial analysis, cartography, web mapping, reporting, system performance, scalability, security, and development standards.

  • Support planning, delivery, and implementation with internal teams, vendors, and subject-matter experts.

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation covering GIS architecture, data models, integrations, workflows, application configurations, administration procedures, development standards, testing, and operational support.

  • Deliver workshops, demonstrations, training, and knowledge-transfer sessions.

  • Attend weekly project meetings, provide written progress reports, and ensure deliverables comply with project governance, quality assurance, and reporting standards

Requirements

  • Professional experience in GIS principles, GIS applications, data analysis, and associated technologies.

  • Extensive experience with GIS architecture, enterprise GIS solutions, geospatial applications, spatial databases, metadata, data governance, cartography, spatial analytics, location intelligence, mapping, dashboards, reporting, APIs, cloud services, ETL/ELT processes, and enterprise-scale databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostGIS, or MySQL).

  • Experience with GIS application development, configuration, system integration, automation workflows, and data pipelines.

  • Experience leading complex GIS, data, or technology projects and coordinating other specialists.
