Job description

The client is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to join an Agile Scrum team focused on building and enhancing production-grade platform services and infrastructure automation. The role centers on developing backend services and APIs that enable engineering teams to provision and manage infrastructure through secure, scalable, and well-defined interfaces.

The ideal candidate has experience building production APIs using Python or Go, understands cloud infrastructure concepts, and has hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred). This role involves close collaboration with infrastructure, security, and developer experience teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and highly automated platform solutions., * Design, develop, and maintain internal platform APIs and backend services.

  • Build API layers that expose infrastructure capabilities securely to internal engineering teams.
  • Develop services using Python or Go that integrate with Terraform-based infrastructure automation.
  • Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Terraform.
  • Define API standards, versioning strategies, and backward compatibility.
  • Implement automated testing for applications and infrastructure code.
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines for platform services and infrastructure automation.
  • Develop and maintain Open Policy Agent (OPA) policies for security, compliance, and governance.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve platform reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Create technical documentation, operational runbooks, and training materials.
  • Research new technologies and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, compliance, and developer experience teams.
  • Participate in technology evaluations and vendor assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams.
  • Support production environments through monitoring, alerting, and operational best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and supporting production backend services and APIs.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs using Go or Python.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including:
  • Data structures
  • Algorithms
  • Design patterns
  • Clean code principles
  • Code reviews
  • Experience building reliable distributed services with concepts such as:
  • Retries
  • Idempotency
  • Timeouts
  • Rate limiting
  • Circuit breakers
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and contract tests.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD automation for application development.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure fundamentals, including:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Strong troubleshooting and production debugging skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal.
  • Knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger and API contract design.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) or platform services.
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools including logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Knowledge of API security, authentication, authorization, secrets management, and audit logging.
  • Experience with advanced Terraform capabilities including:
  • Workspaces
  • Remote state
  • Module composition
  • Experience with Terraform testing frameworks such as Terratest.
  • Exposure to Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Policy as Code.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms (Harness preferred).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, or service mesh technologies.
  • Interest in contributing to open-source platform or infrastructure projects.
