Job description

Experteer Overview As a Controls Hardware Design Engineer, you design electrical and pneumatic control systems for engineered-to-order automation equipment. You’ll work within a cross-functional team to translate customer needs into robust hardware designs while maintaining standards, schedules, and quality. This role sits in the Life Science Division, contributing to cutting-edge automation projects for diverse industries. You will shape sustainable, safe systems that deliver reliable performance and meet customer requirements, with opportunities to work on high-impact, globally deployed solutions. Compensation / Benefits * Design complete electrical control systems for custom automation equipment (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics; panel layouts; BOMs; cable routing) * Perform engineering calculations (full-load amperage, SCCR, panel heat, component sizing) * Develop standardized electrical design practices to boost consistency and efficiency * Create electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent * Implement design automation tools and process improvements to streamline workflows * Collaborate with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and project teams throughout projects * Coordinate with suppliers to evaluate components and resolve application challenges * Ensure electrical and controls designs are safe, reliable, and meet customer requirements * Support Applications Engineering during concept development, estimating, and quoting * Troubleshoot hardware design issues during manufacturing and integration * Communicate technical information effectively with customers, vendors, and teams * Travel occasionally to customer sites or suppliers as needed Tasks * Strong knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, UL 508A, IEC 60204-1, and CE/Machinery Directive * Familiarity with ISO 13849 and safety-related control system design * Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, ePLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar CAD tools * Experience in pneumatic system design (valves, regulators, filters, manifolds, cylinders) * Working knowledge of PLC hardware, HMIs, industrial networks, robotics, and motion control * Experience sizing industrial electrical systems (600 VAC or less) and power distribution * Knowledge of control power systems (24VDC, Class 2 circuits, protection) * Experience integrating third-party equipment (vision, servo drives, robots, sensors) * Familiarity with major automation suppliers (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Keyence, IFM, SMC, Festo) * Experience in a custom machine builder, systems integrator, or industrial automation environment * Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field * Minimum four years in controls hardware design or automation engineering Key requirements * competitive salary * medical, dental, vision * Health Savings Account (HSA) * paid time off * 401(k) with company match
