Job description

The DevOps team is responsible for building a continuously expanding technology infrastructure that provides the global platform by which OpenTable succeeds. We build our data center and cloud infrastructure using the latest networking, virtualization, automation, and configuration management tools. If the tools don’t exist or meet our needs, we write or script them ourselves. We believe in open source and use it extensively. Our team is highly collaborative and works with all engineering organizations very closely. We strive for efficiency, stability, and speed. The Data Center Operations team works collaboratively with all functional areas across the company and provides the following services:

  • Building and running the production services
  • Provisioning and configuration management
  • Virtualization and storage management
  • Cloud hosting and services
  • Data center management
  • Network administration ABOUT THE ROLE Need to be a subject matter expert in many aspects of how our data centers and cloud infrastructure function. We are a global company and you will need to effectively communicate and collaborate on small to very large projects with users and engineers across many timezones. You will be getting your hands dirty everyday writing scripts/code, configuring hardware, troubleshooting issues, digging into logs, looking at metrics, and scaling infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Have an extensive experience and knowledge of administering, troubleshooting, deploying, and configuring Linux
  • Have a strong passion for automation and configuration management - if you need to do it more than once, you are the type of person that will automate it (Puppet and/or Chef a big plus)
  • Have built and supported physical data centers
  • Have built and supported large environments in the cloud (AWS a big plus)
  • Have written scripts or built applications in Python/Ruby/Bash
  • Worked with Virtualization technologies (Vmware/Xen/KVM)
  • Can jump in and work with open source monitoring and metrics tools (Nagios/Sensu/Graphite/statsd/ELK)
  • Are able to participate in an on-call rotation
