Job description
Install, configure, maintain, and support enterprise LAN, WAN, and Internet network infrastructure Monitor network performance, availability, utilization, and fault conditions Perform network maintenance to ensure maximum uptime and reliability Configure, deploy, and maintain network hardware and software Support Cisco routing, switching, VLAN configuration, and enterprise networking Design network extensions and connectivity for enterprise infrastructure Troubleshoot network connectivity and communication issues Respond to Tier 1 and Tier 2 network and software support requests Perform break/fix support for network infrastructure and communication systems Configure and maintain routing protocols including BGP and OSPF Maintain network documentation, architecture diagrams, inventory, and change records Support deployment of new network hardware and communications infrastructure Assist in infrastructure solution design and implementation Perform capacity planning and network performance tuning Analyze existing network infrastructure and recommend improvements based on cybersecurity best practices Support cybersecurity initiatives including threat mitigation and security enhancements Work closely with ITS Field Maintenance for communications implementation and troubleshooting Train users and technical staff on networking solutions when required Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams on enterprise infrastructure projects Effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining project timelines
Requirements
The State of Virginia (VDOT) is seeking an experienced Network Administrator 4 with a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on networking experience to support the Transportation Operations Center (TOC). This role is ideal for a mid-level networking professional seeking long-term career growth with strong technical expertise in enterprise networking, infrastructure support, network security, and troubleshooting. The selected candidate will install, configure, maintain, monitor, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure while supporting LAN/WAN environments, routing, switching, cybersecurity initiatives, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership potential, excellent communication skills, and the ability to independently manage medium-complexity technical assignments., 10+ years of General Information Technology experience 5+ years of Cisco Routing & Switching 5+ years of VLAN Management 5+ years of Subnetting 3+ years of Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF) 2+ years of Network Design 2+ years of Integration Troubleshooting Experience administering enterprise LAN/WAN environments Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and network infrastructure Experience maintaining network hardware and software Knowledge of network architecture and infrastructure design Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills Experience supporting enterprise network deployments Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field, Experience with Network Security Experience with Cybersecurity Experience with DNS & DHCP Experience with Network Monitoring Tools Experience with Cisco FMC / Firepower Experience with Network Cable Management Experience with Solutions Design & Build Experience with Software Integrations Experience working within State Government or large enterprise environments
