Sr Systems Engineer

Robert Half is actively partnering with an Austin-based client to identify a Senior Systems Engineer (contract). In this role, you will support and enhance enterprise infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing infrastructure solutions with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud technologies. This role is onsite in Austin, Tx.

Key Responsibilites:

• Design, implement, and support Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure. Lead cloud migration, modernization, and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Administer Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, and endpoint management tools.
• Support virtualization, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and virtual desktop environments.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and security.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Manage upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and lifecycle activities.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, networking, and application teams.
• Lead technical initiatives and mentor entry level engineers.
• Maintain infrastructure documentation, standards, and procedures.
• Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Coordinate with vendors and third-party technology partners.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for critical systems support.

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments. Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud technologies.
• Strong knowledge of cloud networking, virtual machines, storage, identity management, monitoring, security, and governance.
• Experience administering Microsoft server technologies and enterprise directory services.
• Strong background supporting virtualization platforms within large-scale environments. Experience with enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
• Familiarity with virtual application and desktop delivery technologies. Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud services.
• Proven success leading infrastructure migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives. Advanced troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience operating within large, complex enterprise organizations. Ability to support after-hours and on-call operational requirements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally as business needs require.

Preferred:

• Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or Azure Security Engineer.
• Industry certifications related to virtualization, networking, cloud infrastructure, or project management.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud architectures in multi-site or global environments.
• Experience working in highly technical, regulated, or complex operational environments.
• Demonstrated project leadership experience and the ability to drive technology initiatives from planning through implementation. Understanding of enterprise application architecture and cloud integration strategies.
• Experience integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud-based and SaaS platforms.
• Additional language skills or experience collaborating with international teams is a plus.
