Job description

Experteer Overview In this role you will define and lead the development of the in-vehicle Ethernet network across GM’s vehicle platforms. You’ll own a full-stack Ethernet system from data-link to application layer, coordinating with architecture, hardware, and software teams to ensure end-to-end system integrity. You’ll drive strategy, validation, and continuous improvement of the Ethernet stack, keeping the program aligned with industry standards and roadmaps. This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership position at the core of GM’s next-generation vehicle architecture. Compensation / Benefits * Champion the in-vehicle Ethernet strategy and roadmap with product and core technology teams * Design and develop Ethernet systems including architecture, topology, and protocols across OSI layers * Define Ethernet system requirements, validation strategy, and triage network issues across hardware, software, and test infra * Support testing/validation and develop network performance dashboards with Electrical Systems Architecture team * Monitor network health and feed learnings into strategy and requirements * Collaborate with semiconductor teams on hardware components and roadmaps * Ensure seamless integration of Ethernet systems into overall vehicle architecture * Lead team to automate generation and release of network configurations * Stay updated with industry standards, protocols, and trends in in-vehicle Ethernet * Represent GM in IEEE 802 and Open Alliance working groups * Lead Ethernet stack improvements for next-gen SDV architectures (e.g., 10BASE-T1S, real-time latency, cybersecurity reductions) Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline * 8+ years designing and implementing complex computer networks * Expert knowledge of automotive Ethernet, TCP/IP, SOME/IP * Advanced understanding of data-link layer internals (switches, software stack) * Experience designing TSN solutions (time synchronization, traffic prioritization) * End-to-end awareness of hardware/software components in automotive networks (PHYs, switches, connectors, cables) * Advanced knowledge of Ethernet switch internals * Familiarity with software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, and network troubleshooting * Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills * Mentoring and capability development experience Key requirements * health and wellbeing programs * retirement savings plan * vehicle discounts * tuition assistance * paid vacation and holidays * life insurance
