Job description

Experteer Overview Join GM as a Staff System Engineer to lead the development of the in-vehicle Ethernet backbone across vehicle platforms. You’ll own end-to-end Ethernet system design, from data-link to application layer, aligning with cross-functional teams to validate performance and drive roadmaps. You will shape architecture decisions, hardware selections, and security considerations for next-generation vehicle networks. This role offers impact at scale within GM’s Mechatronics Infrastructure, with exposure to industry standards and strategic partnerships. Compensation / Benefits * Champion in-vehicle Ethernet strategy and roadmap with product and core tech teams * Design and develop Ethernet systems across OSI layers and vehicle platforms * Define Ethernet system requirements, validation strategy, and triage network issues * Support testing/validation and develop network performance dashboards * Monitor network health and feed insights into strategy * Collaborate with semiconductor teams for hardware selection and roadmaps * Ensure seamless integration of Ethernet into overall vehicle architecture * Lead team to automate generation and release of network configuration * Stay updated on industry standards and emerging technologies * Represent GM in IEEE 802 and Open Alliance groups * Develop Ethernet system and software stack improvements for next-gen SDV architectures * Advance latency, synchronization, and cybersecurity strategies in Ethernet networks Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline * 8+ years in planning, designing, and implementing complex computer networks * Expert knowledge of networking protocols, automotive Ethernet, TCP/IP, and SOME/IP * Advanced knowledge of data-link layer internals (switches, stacks) * Experience designing TSN solutions (time synchronization, traffic prioritization) * End-to-end understanding of automotive network hardware/software (PHYs, switches, connectors, cables) * Advanced knowledge of Ethernet switch internals * Familiarity with software development lifecycle, testing methodologies, and network troubleshooting Key requirements * Medical, dental, and vision * Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) * Retirement savings plan * Sickness and accident benefits * Life insurance * Paid vacation and holidays
