Job description
Experteer Overview As Lead Embedded Systems Engineer for the RTOS team, you will shape the real-time operating system foundation used across the vehicle compute platform. Youāll guide safety-critical scheduling, memory protection, and multicore partitioning, ensuring isolation and predictability. Youāll collaborate with hardware safety, safety engineering, and platform teams to align software with hardware protection and safety requirements. This role combines systems programming, safety engineering, and platform architecture to enable scalable, trustworthy software across latency-sensitive automotive systems. Youāll mentor a team of senior engineers and drive technical direction with a strong impact on the,ē«, Compensation / Benefits * Lead and grow a team of senior and staff embedded systems engineers for the RTOS build, configuration, and runtime layer * Set technical direction for scheduling policy, memory protection, fault handling, and multicore partitioning to meet real-time deadlines and safety requirements * Design and evolve C++ runtime APIs and primitives for safe memory management and scheduling * Define core allocation strategy for the compute platform across cores based on timing, isolation, and safety * Own RTOS isolation across cores, including MPU configuration and privilege enforcement, compatible with hardware firewall protections * Design cross-core synchronization primitives and collaborate to minimize cross-core coordination overhead * Develop tooling to determine multicore scheduling requirements systematically toward global deadline guarantees * Oversee boot sequence, secure boot, watchdog/fault escalation, and contribute to multicore bring-up * Partner with systems safety engineering to ensure RTOS meets automotive functional safety requirements * Collaborate with hardware safety team, silicon partners, and platform teams to handle multicore quirks and safety considerations * Drive coding standards, static analysis, and debug/trace instrumentation across the RTOS codebase * Manage hiring, performance, and career development with potential to develop a manager * * * Tasks * Bachelorās degree in a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Masterās with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years * Significant experience in embedded systems or RTOS development * Deep knowledge of real-time scheduling theory, memory protection (MPU/MMU), and low-level C/C++ systems programming * Experience designing APIs or abstraction layers for embedded runtimes * Experience with multicore RTOS architectures and inter-core communication * Experience with core allocation strategies and task-to-core assignment in multicore embedded systems * Experience designing or working with cross-core synchronization primitives * Familiarity with automotive or safety-critical software practices (ISO 26262, DO-178C) * Experience managing engineering teams and hiring; developing other managers is a plus * Comfort with hardware-adjacent domains (power, thermal, diagnostics) and ambiguity while driving tooling improvements * Strong cross-functional communication skills with hardware, safety, and application teams Key requirements * medical, dental, and vision insurance * 401(k) with employer match * paid parental leave * unlimited vacation * 12+ holidays? * Professional development reimbursement
