Job description

TCNJ’s School of the Arts and Communication comprises four academic departments, as well as arts and culture units that launch performances, exhibitions, radio & TV programs and DIY workshops. The four departments are: 1) Art & Art Education 2) Communication, Journalism and Film 3) Design and Creative Technology and 4) Music

The Arts/Culture units are: 1) Center for the Arts, comprises three performance venues, audio recording studio, technical and audience services. 2) TCNJ Art Gallery launches up to 5 exhibitions each academic year, with relevant arts and academic programming 3) WTSR radio station and Lions TV studio. 4) TCNJ MakerSpace which is open to all students and faculty on campus.

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Communication, Marketing and Outreach Specialist is the strategic lead for all communications in the School of the Arts and Communication. This role is responsible for planning, strategizing and implementing a successful marketing and outreach program for the school, its four academic departments, its arts and culture units (including TCNJ’s Center for the Arts) and its pre-college programs, while ensuring a cohesive visual identity and adherence to TCNJ brand standards through collaboration with the college’s Office of Communications, Marketing and Brand Management (CMBM). The professional in this role will develop and promote the ArtsComm brand and establish the school and its various units as a premier destination for learning about and experiencing the arts and effective communication., * Marketing Strategy & Execution: Defining and implementing comprehensive outreach plans for internal academic audience and also external audience from the neighboring community.

  • Content Development and Management: Overseeing the creation of marketing and communication materials, including: all ArtsComm web pages, social media, print collateral, videography, weekly newsletter, e-blasts, and digital board management. Collaborate with Audience Services on college event calendar. Draft copy for Dean’s messaging.
  • Enrollment Management: Execute recruitment communications for first-year and transfer students, including strategic Slate communication campaigns, coordinating event participation, supervising Grad Assistant focused on recruiting.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze enrollment data. Research questions include: identifying school, region or counselor relationships to leverage; determining what is working and what is not; determining the relationship between ArtsComm engagement (such as a pre-college summer experience) and application and enrollment.

  • Supervising & Mentorship: Supervising student workers (for example, for Graphic Design or Social Media. The office has also historically had a student worker to help recruitment outreach communications, events and campus visits. Mentor student speakers for commencement and other events.

Requirements

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills. Capacity to write effectively to meet deadlines

Required:

  • NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices; including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts and improving and updating management practices.
  • OR
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Minimum three years’ experience as a communications and marketing professional

Preferred:

  • Experience working in higher education and/or in an arts and culture organization.
