Principal Software Engineer / Tech Lead

SDA Solutions is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer / Tech Lead to support a mission-critical Department of Defense program in Arlington, Virginia. This senior technical leadership position is responsible for leading software engineering teams, driving enterprise architecture decisions, and delivering secure, scalable software solutions supporting critical DISA missions.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading Agile development teams, implementing DevSecOps best practices, overseeing full software development lifecycles, and mentoring engineering teams while delivering complex enterprise applications within secure government environments., Provide technical leadership for multiple Agile software development teams delivering enterprise solutions. Translate mission objectives and product backlog priorities into technical roadmaps and sprint deliverables. Design, develop, and integrate secure APIs, enterprise applications, and data integration solutions. Lead implementation of DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software release management. Develop and maintain deployment automation using Jenkins, GitLab, Bitbucket, Ansible, Terraform, Git, and related DevOps tools. Establish software engineering standards, development best practices, and technical governance across engineering teams. Oversee software architecture, solution design, scalability, security, and system reliability. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to senior software engineers and development teams. Support software release planning, version control, configuration management, and production deployments. Collaborate with program leadership, product owners, and stakeholders to align technical strategy with mission requirements. Support Agile development processes including sprint planning, backlog refinement, Jira tracking, and continuous process improvement. Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, engineering standards, and operational procedures. Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex engineering challenges and enterprise software issues.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree. Active TS/SCI security clearance. Proven experience leading multiple software engineering teams delivering complex enterprise applications. Strong experience supporting the full software development lifecycle within Agile environments. Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps methodologies, and automated testing practices. Experience with Java, JavaScript, Python, GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Terraform, Ansible, YAML, PowerShell, Gradle, Oracle 19c, Web Services, and related enterprise technologies. Experience designing, building, and deploying automated DevOps pipelines using Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Ansible, or comparable tools. Strong understanding of enterprise software architecture, release management, and production deployment processes. Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. Experience supporting high-tempo, mission-critical enterprise environments. Experience utilizing Jira or similar Agile project management tools., Previous experience supporting DISA or other Department of Defense enterprise programs. Experience designing, developing, and deploying applications within AWS or other secure cloud environments. Experience leading enterprise software modernization and cloud transformation initiatives. Experience mentoring engineering teams and establishing software development best practices.
