Job description

ABOUT TEMPLE BETH EL

Temple Beth El is a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation and a sacred home for Jewish identity, connection, and continuity. Our mission is to cultivate connected, proud, and meaningful Jewish living that inspires change in our world.

Located on Shalom Park in Charlotte, North Carolina, we are the region’s largest Jewish congregation. Our community is guided by deep roots, sacred responsibility, and daring hope. We believe that relationships are at the heart of congregational life-and that every person should feel known, welcomed, and connected.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Temple Beth El seeks a warm, organized, and relational professional to serve as our Engagement and Programming Coordinator.

Working closely with the Director of Congregational Life, this person will help turn programs into pathways for connection, volunteers into valued partners, and participation into a deeper sense of belonging. The coordinator will support congregational programs, strengthen volunteer systems, assist members in finding meaningful ways to become involved, and help ensure that community experiences are thoughtfully planned and executed.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working with both people and details: welcoming members, supporting volunteers, organizing logistics, communicating clearly, and helping a mission-driven organization bring meaningful experiences to life.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Build relationships with members and help them find programs, groups, volunteer roles, and other opportunities that match their interests.
  • Support congregational events, worship experiences, holidays, and community initiatives from planning through follow-up.
  • Recruit, schedule, prepare, communicate with, and appreciate volunteers.
  • Support small groups, cohorts, committees, and other community groups by coordinating communication, materials, meetings, and next steps.
  • Help welcome new members and families and connect them with people and experiences across the congregation.
  • Collaborate with staff and lay leaders to ensure that program needs, responsibilities, and timelines are clear.
  • Partner with the Communications team to promote programs and share stories of participation and impact.
  • Use engagement and constituent-management systems to track participation, support follow-up, and inform decision-making.
  • Represent Temple Beth El in selected Shalom Park and community initiatives.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

The successful coordinator will help create a congregation where:

  • Members feel welcomed, recognized, and able to find their place.
  • Volunteers understand their roles, feel appreciated, and know how their service advances TBE’s mission.
  • Programs are organized, communicated effectively, and designed to strengthen relationships.
  • Staff and lay leaders have reliable systems for coordinating programs and following up with participants.
  • Participation becomes a pathway to deeper connection, belonging, and Jewish life.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Strong candidates will bring:

  • At least two years of experience in community engagement, programming, volunteer coordination, hospitality, events, or a related field.
  • A genuine interest in people and an ability to build trust across ages, backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, follow-through, and close attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative and fast-moving environment.
  • Comfort learning and using databases, constituent-management systems, Microsoft Office, Canva, WordPress, and social media platforms.
  • Appropriate discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is welcomed but not required. Familiarity with Jewish culture and traditions is preferred, and candidates of all faiths who are excited by our mission are encouraged to apply.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time, primarily on-site position. Because congregational life often takes place when community members are available, the position includes regular evening work and periodic Shabbat, holiday, and Sunday responsibilities. The schedule will vary based on the congregational calendar, with appropriate flexibility coordinated with the supervisor.

The position includes occasional outdoor work and requires the ability to move materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $40,000-$50,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience. Temple Beth El provides an attractive benefits package for eligible full-time employees, including 90% employer-paid major medical coverage for the employee.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send a resume and cover letter to careers@templebethel.org. Your cover letter should tell us why this opportunity interests you and how your experience would help people feel connected, welcomed, and engaged at Temple Beth El.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Temple Beth El is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome candidates of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and faith journeys who share our commitment to building an inclusive and meaningful community.
