Embedded Software Engineer - Level 3 or 4

Experteer Overview Embedded Software Engineer role supporting Lunar Base Infrastructure for NASA in the Space Systems unit. You will develop flight software interactions with hardware, build BSPs, and integrate with simulation and hardware-in-the-loop platforms. The position is onsite in McLean, VA with a TS/SCI requirement and a 9/80 work schedule. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to define requirements, verify software, and help deliver spaceflight software platforms for civil, commercial, and national programs. This is a high-impact role shaping lunar exploration technology within a mission-driven team. Compensation / Benefits * Develop embedded software modules interfacing with hardware protocols and interfaces (UART, MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, SPI, digital/analog I/O) * Collaborate to establish Flight-Software requirements, testing and verification plans * Configure and integrate board support packages (BSPs) and device drivers * Conduct trade studies via simulations or development kits * Integrate spacecraft components and flight software with simulation platforms * Contribute to hardware/software design, development, debugging, and integration on simulation and hardware-in-the-loop setups * Analyze system resources to improve efficiency, stability, and performance * Prepare design documents, analyses, test results, and presentation material for customers * Troubleshoot software installations, integration, tests, and operational issues with other engineers * Operate in cross-functional, innovative teams across levels and assignments Tasks * Active TS/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship * Experience with C and Python; Linux; Git * Experience with software development unit/functional test frameworks and verification scripting on hardware * Experience with Kubernetes (K8s)/Docker * Experience with CI/CD pipelines * Collaborative experience within an integrated systems team * Level-specific years of experience per degree (5/3/1 for Level 3; 8/6/4 for Level 4) * Ability to read schematics and work with components’ datasheets * Knowledge of embedded system tools and RTOS (e.g., VxWorks) is a plus Key requirements * health insurance * life and disability insurance * savings plan * company paid holidays * paid time off (PTO) * discretionary bonuses
