Job description

We are seeking an experienced Director, Payroll to lead enterprise payroll operations for a large, multi-state healthcare organization supporting approximately 55,000 employees nationwide. This leader will oversee payroll operations while serving as the functional payroll expert for Oracle Payroll, partnering closely with HR, Finance, and IT to optimize system performance and drive continuous improvement. Responsibilities:

  • Lead enterprise-wide payroll operations across a complex, multi-state healthcare organization.
  • Provide strategic leadership to a payroll organization consisting of 2 Payroll Managers and approximately 40 indirect team members.
  • Serve as the business leader for Oracle Payroll, partnering with HR, Finance, and IT to support ongoing system optimization.
  • Lead post-go-live Oracle Payroll activities, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, troubleshooting, and enhancement efforts.
  • Drive payroll process improvements, operational efficiencies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple payroll cycles.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting, and system functionality.
  • Support the transition of additional payroll functions back in-house as the organization continues to mature its Oracle environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience within a large, complex organization.
  • Hands-on Oracle Payroll experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Oracle Payroll after implementation, including:

  • Quarterly release testing
  • System enhancements
  • Troubleshooting
  • Payroll validation
  • Post-go-live optimization

  • Experience serving as the payroll business lead or Payroll SME working alongside HRIS and IT teams.
  • Multi-state payroll leadership experience.
  • Experience leading payroll teams within a shared services or enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll accounting, and payroll operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion Payroll and Oracle HCM.
  • Experience supporting payroll system optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with payroll process automation and operational transformation.
  • Oracle implementation experience

  • Shared Services environment
  • Payroll accounting/GL reconciliation
