Job description

Experteer Overview As Staff Software Engineer on the Benefits Renewals team, you shape the renewal workflows that help employers and employees stay compliant and retain optimal benefits. You work across the full product lifecycle, from early scope to launch and long-term iteration, influencing product direction and owning post-launch outcomes. You will write clean frontend code, design robust backend APIs, and collaborate with product, data, design, and platform teams to solve real customer pain points. This role offers the chance to impact millions of livelihoods powered by Gusto products and to advance AI-enabled development in a large-scale Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React application. Compensation / Benefits * Design, build, and test Benefits-related products * Improve the renewal user experience for external and internal customers * Automate complex health insurance manual processes to reduce errors and save time * Mentor other engineers to tackle challenging problems at scale * Scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React applications * Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to prototype, iterate, and launch * Develop products that customers genuinely love Tasks * 8+ years of software development experience * Experience owning multi-quarter projects with measurable customer impact at scale * Experience driving large, cross-functional projects end-to-end through ambiguity * Experience with implementing A/B tests or experimentation * Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development * Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks and safe scale across teams * Ability to mentor engineers for performance and impact * Experience in or interest in Ruby on Rails * Appreciation for collaborative, test-driven environment * Ability to build well-structured, maintainable, well-documented code * Effective communication across engineering teams and with business stakeholders * Willingness to travel to Gusto’s office for onboarding Key requirements * competitive base pay * benefits * equity (RSUs)
