Job description

Our client BAE Systems, a prominent entity in the Defence & Security sector, is seeking a talented Design Engineer with experience in producing Spacial layouts, detailed parts lists, inventories and detail manufacturing for a 12-month contract role based in Portsmouth., * Engaging in various activities related to all classes of vessels, including system design modifications, feasibility studies, fluid flow analysis, CAD draughting, and ship surveys.

  • Producing System Design Modifications, including Installation Drawing Packages using AutoCAD 2D and 3D Inventor, and conducting ship surveys at multiple sites across the UK and abroad.
  • Conducting ship system design modifications and writing feasibility reports.
  • Applying knowledge of maritime warship systems, including fluid and mechanical systems to perform basic pressure loss and flow calculations.
  • Collaborating with Mechanical team to ensure integrated production of system design solutions.
  • Ensuring designs comply with internal and external standards and procedures.
  • Conducting ship trials and surveys and communicating effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Promoting high standards of safety, health, and environment (SHE) in all tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience in 2D/3D design, preferably using AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Understanding of detailed system and technical engineering drawings, including manufacturing drawings.
  • Knowledge of ship system engineering drawings, materials, and equipment selection.
  • In-depth understanding of maritime warship systems, particularly fluid-based and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in ship mechanical systems, both in build and in-service stages.
  • Familiarity with internal and external (MoD and industry) customer standards and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct investigations into operational problems and prepare solutions.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (BTEC/ONC) or equivalent experience., * Competence in producing spacial layouts, detailed parts lists, inventories, and detailed manufacturing documentation using design software.
  • Ability to carry out ship surveys and investigations into operational problems.
  • Support for the development of best practices to enhance tools and processes.
  • Good communication skills for effective collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in conducting material and equipment analysis relevant to ship systems.
