Job description

Experteer Overview As a Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer at Leidos, you will design, implement, and integrate mission-critical software for airborne and missile-defense systems. You will work with integrated teams to deliver high-quality embedded solutions in a fast-paced environment, applying SDLC best practices and DevOps to ensure reliable delivery. You will mentor junior engineers and help advance tooling and processes, including AI-enabled development practices. This role offers meaningful impact in defense technology and system-level integration. Compensation / Benefits * Design and develop embedded airborne software, including architecture, coding, peer reviews, and unit testing. * Own module integration within subsystems and contribute to cross-subsystem integration. * Leverage DevOps and CI/CD pipelines to ensure quality and timely delivery. * Develop tools and harnesses to support testing, integration, and maintenance. * Participate in design, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of embedded software within project scope. * Communicate with stakeholders and teammates to align on requirements and progress. * Apply software engineering standards across SDLC, including requirements analysis and hardware compatibility analysis. * Recommend new technologies and standards to improve engineering practices, working with senior engineers. * Coach and mentor junior team members and contribute to project delivery within the technical area. * Identify opportunities to improve development workflows and tooling, including AI-enabled development capabilities. Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline with 3.0+ GPA, or 2+ years with a master’s degree. * 4+ years of relevant technical experience, or 2+ years with a master’s degree. * 2+ years of experience with real-time embedded systems in defense, aerospace, or safety-critical platforms (preferred). * U.S. Citizenship and active DoD Secret Security Clearance. * Location: resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville-North Alabama. * Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems. * Experience with RTOS such as VxWorks, Integrity, or FreeRTOS. * Experience with embedded processors/microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex, RISC-V). * Experience with embedded debugging tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes). * Experience with Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and test automation. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
