Principal Software Engineer

Experteer Overview In this role you lead the design and development of scalable, enterprise-grade financial systems within HealthEquity’s evolving tech platform. You will guide multiple teams, mentor engineers, and raise engineering standards to support growth and reliability. You’ll influence architecture, drive modernization of finance platforms, and apply AI-driven productivity to improve efficiency. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role at the intersection of technology, product, and business. Compensation / Benefits * Own architecture and technical direction for key finance initiatives (e.g., Unified Billing, financial integrations) * Lead cross-team engineering efforts across several scrum teams with alignment on design and standards * Design scalable, resilient systems for high-volume financial transactions with data consistency and auditability * Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate complex financial requirements into technical solutions * Drive modernization efforts, including NetSuite migration and platform optimization * Mentor engineers and tech leads to raise technical depth and engineering practices * Influence organization-wide engineering standards (observability, reliability, security, performance) * Identify opportunities for innovation, including AI/automation to boost developer productivity and ops efficiency Tasks * 12-15+ years of software development experience * 5+ years in a senior technical leadership or lead role * Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale enterprise systems * Track record of technical innovation and modernization in FinTech or financial systems * Expert-level proficiency in .NET, .NET Core, C#, SQL, and Python * Strong cloud experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure services (App Service, API Management, Service Bus, Application Insights, Application Gateway, Event Grid, Key Vault, Azure SQL) * Hands-on with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Git * Experience with distributed systems and messaging (RabbitMQ, nServiceBus) * Relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server) * Experience with APIs/open standards (OpenAPI/Swagger, WCF) * Front-end basics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular) * Secure SDLC practices and application security compliance * Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Splunk, Dynatrace) * Leadership and collaboration with strong communication skills * Customer-focused mindset and ability to mentor engineers Key requirements * Medical, dental, and vision * HSA contribution and match * Dependent care FSA match * Uncapped paid time off * Paid parental leave * 401(k) match
