Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)

Location: Remote but travel to office location Rugby, Valley Cross once per week plus travel requirement to sites as required.

We are looking for a Solutions Design Manager to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will utilise your extensive experience in developing and delivering innovative warehouse solutions, with a particular focus on warehouse automation, to create efficient, scalable, and commercially viable operational designs. As our go-to subject matter expert, you’ll collaborate with diverse teams to create tailored solutions that not only meet customer needs but also drive DHL’s growth agenda.

As a subject matter expert in warehouse design, you will lead multiple design workstreams from early concept and assumptions through to detailed design, costing, risk management and implementation support. You will also play an important role in benchmarking solutions, applying industry best practice, future-proofing designs and supporting the development of junior designers and pipeline talent.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design Excellence: Design and deliver end-to-end operational warehouse solutions for both existing facilities and new-build scenarios, encompassing data analysis, layout design, and the development of manual, mechanised, and fully automated operations solutions.
  • Leading design workstreams across concept design, detailed design, costing, assumptions management, risk and issue tracking, and implementation support.
  • Managing the design and costing phase for significant bids, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely and aligned to customer needs.
  • Assess operational impacts, identify and mitigate risks, and provide commercial insights and recommendations to key stakeholders to drive efficient, cost-effective solutions.
  • Be Digital by Default: Embed digital thinking across our solutions, using data, automation and AI as the foundation of how we work and how we grow.
  • Lead with Impact: Manage multiple projects, oversee design principles, and guide junior team members while ensuring operational excellence.
  • Leverage strong stakeholder management and influencing skills to secure operational buy-in for proposed solutions, building consensus across cross-functional teams and ensuring alignment between operational, commercial, and customer requirements
  • Innovate: Conduct sensitivity analysis and stress testing to future-proof designs and benchmark against industry best practices. Be proactive in challenging ways of working with your practice, regularly lead peer reviews and provide technical feedback to enhance quality of bid responses.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Previous experience in a Solutions Design Manager, Warehouse Solutions Designer or equivalent warehouse design role.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing mechanised or fully automated warehouse solutions.
  • Understanding of the end-to-end supply chain experience. Finding solutions to problems and defining your own concepts.
  • Expertise in data modelling and, extrapolating and interpreting data., problem-solving, and process optimisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills to influence and secure buy-in
  • A passion for taking ownership of projects and driving efficiency.
  • Knowledge of divisional supply chain products and capabilities, with an understanding of DHL sectors, customers, and products.
