Job description

As a Supervisory IT Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Serve as technical Supervisor of subordinates in planning and distributing work to be completed in accordance with short and long-term priorities. Provide feedback on training and performance needs of personnel.
  • Provide technical oversight on effective design, development, integration, implementation, and operation of all management information systems and equipment.
  • Provide technical security advice on threats and vulnerabilities to properly assess risks and determine effective measures to minimize risks with systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting to resolve issues with Information Technology (IT) hardware and software systems.

To qualify for the 2210 series: IT COMPETENCIES: For all positions individuals must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify at the ZP-4 or GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the IT Competencies above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:

  • Performing technical support to a program for the integration of Information Technology (IT) systems (i.e. installations, configurations, system development, etc.); and
  • Providing technical guidance and direction to program personnel on IT systems (i.e. operations procedures, systems performance, installation, maintenance, updating hardware and software, etc.)., Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education., Position sensitivity and risk Moderate Risk (MR) Jobs require a background check and some require a security clearance. Upon completion of your probationary period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest., Salary for selectee’s pay may be set at any point within the pay band except for intervals 4 and 5 ($131,572 - $196,146) which is reserved for supervisory performance or for current supervisors within CAPS who already have a salary within intervals 4 and 5.

ICTAP and CTAP Candidates: Eligible for selection priority if it is determined that they have exceeded the minimum qualifications by attaining at least a rating of 85 out of 100. ICTAP applicants MUST submit the following documents:

  • Copy of your SF-50 ā€œNotification of Personnel Actionā€ documenting your RIF separation, noting your positions, grade level, and duty location, and/or Agency certification of inability to place you through RPL, etc;

CTAP applicants MUST submit the following documents:

  • Copy of your specific RIF notice; notice of proposed removal for failure to relocate; a Certificate of Expected Separation (CES); or certification that you are in a surplus organization or occupation (this could be a position abolishment letter, a notice eligibility for discontinued service retirement, or similar notice).

  • Copy of your SF-50 ā€œNotification of Personnel Actionā€, noting current position, grade level, and duty location;
