Job description

We are seeking experienced Data Center Technicians and one Lead Technician to support a short-term data center rack relocation, reconfiguration, and equipment installation project. The team will be responsible for safely removing and repositioning existing racks, installing and securing new 19” racks, relocating and reinstalling enterprise IT equipment, and completing all required cabling, power connections, labeling, and documentation. The ideal candidates will have hands-on experience working in enterprise data center environments and be comfortable handling servers, switches, storage equipment, rack infrastructure, power distribution equipment, and structured cabling. Scope of Work Technicians will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Remove servers, switches, storage devices, and other equipment from existing racks as required for the rack move.

  • Safely move and reposition existing racks according to the required room layout.

  • Align rack rows and ensure proper spacing and positioning.

  • Install, level, and securely anchor new 19” equipment racks.

  • Reconfigure the existing rack layout and install additional racks as required.

  • Rack and stack servers, switches, storage devices, and related enterprise equipment according to provided rack diagrams.

  • Reconnect equipment following the existing configuration and cabling plan.

  • Route, dress, label, and secure network and power cabling.

  • Maintain proper cable management, bend radius, rack organization, and airflow.

  • Connect equipment to appropriate power sources, including A/B power feeds where applicable.

  • Maintain proper power load balancing and redundancy.

  • Update port diagrams, rack elevations, and cable documentation as required.

  • Verify equipment is properly installed, connected, labeled, and secured.

  • Perform visual inspections of equipment and connections before project completion.

  • Identify and report any damaged equipment, cabling issues, missing components, or configuration discrepancies.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout the project.

Lead Technician Responsibilities The Lead Technician will provide onsite leadership and coordinate the activities of the three Data Center Technicians. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate daily technician activities and onsite workflow.

  • Provide direction to technicians throughout the rack move and equipment reinstallation.

  • Review rack layouts, diagrams, and installation requirements.

  • Coordinate the sequence of equipment removal, rack relocation, installation, and reconnection.

  • Ensure equipment is handled, installed, and secured appropriately.

  • Monitor cable management and rack organization.

  • Verify network and power connections are completed according to project requirements.

  • Identify potential issues or conflicts and escalate them to the appropriate project contact.

  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to the project schedule.

  • Perform quality-control inspections of completed work.

  • Coordinate with the client’s onsite personnel and other project stakeholders as required.

  • Provide daily project status updates and communicate any delays, issues, or changes in scope.

Requirements

Candidates should have hands-on experience working in enterprise data center environments, including rack installation, server deployment, equipment relocation, cable management, and power distribution. Experience with the following manufacturers and equipment is highly preferred:

  • HPE

  • Dell

  • Cisco

  • Extreme Networks

  • APC

  • Eaton

  • Similar enterprise data center hardware

Required Skills

  • Data center rack installation and relocation

  • Server and network equipment installation

  • Rack-and-stack experience

  • Enterprise server and storage hardware

  • Network switch installation

  • Structured cabling and cable management

  • Rack elevation and equipment diagrams

  • A/B power distribution and redundant power configurations

  • Basic understanding of data center power load balancing

  • Equipment labeling and port documentation

  • Ability to safely handle and move rack-mounted equipment

  • Ability to read rack layouts, diagrams, and equipment documentation

  • Strong attention to detail and organization

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a technical project team

Lead Technician Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience leading data center relocation or rack-move projects

  • Experience coordinating multiple technicians onsite

  • Ability to interpret rack elevations and data center floor plans

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to coordinate with client representatives and project management

  • Experience performing quality-control inspections and project closeout documentation

Physical Requirements Technicians must be able to:

  • Lift and move data center equipment and rack components weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

  • Work around server racks and equipment for extended periods.

  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined rack spaces as required., The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on data center experience and be comfortable performing physical rack moves, equipment installation, rack-and-stack activities, structured cable management, and redundant power connections. The Lead Technician should additionally have experience directing a small onsite technical team and coordinating the execution of a data center move from start to finish.
