Job description

We are looking for a Software Engineer who enjoys getting into the details of the code. You care about writing

clean, well-tested Java, are curious about system design, and get energized by solving hard problems in

lifecycle from implementation and code review through deployment and troubleshooting. This is a hands-on role

where you’ll grow your craft while making a real impact on the reliability and performance of BILL’s financial

Requirements

Around 4 years of professional software engineering experience, with solid hands-on Java development.

  • Experience building or contributing to microservices - you understand how services interact and can

reason through basic design decisions.

  • Good debugging instincts and a reasonable approach to investigating issues, including in production

environments.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools, ideally Datadog and/or Splunk - reading dashboards,

interpreting logs, and using traces to investigate issues.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases - writing queries, understanding indexing basics,

and awareness of performance considerations.

  • Experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, SQS, or DynamoDB).
  • Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs; exposure to event-driven or messaging-based

architectures is a plus.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
  • Clear communication skills - you can articulate your thinking in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
