A client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Consultant to support mission-critical software and systems engineering efforts within a secure enterprise environment. This role requires an active Secret security clearance and strong experience administering and developing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platforms, including hands-on experience with RHEL 9. The ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years of Linux systems experience and 2+ years of Java development experience, with a solid understanding of operating system security, application integration, and troubleshooting in highly regulated environments. Experience working with Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is required, including configuring policies, troubleshooting access issues, and maintaining secure system operations.
In addition to Linux expertise, the successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in C and C++ development, including the ability to analyze existing codebases and implement minor enhancements or bug fixes within complex applications. Candidates should demonstrate a clear understanding of C++ programming concepts and best practices, including pointers and references, const correctness, pass-by-value versus pass-by-reference, memory management principles, and exception handling. Experience developing TCP/IP networking applications using native C/C++ socket programming is required, along with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize network communications. The consultant should also have hands-on experience using Makefiles and the make build facility to compile, manage, and maintain source code across development environments.
The Senior Consultant will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support software development, system integration, testing, and deployment activities while ensuring compliance with security and operational requirements. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who can work independently, contribute to technical discussions, and support the ongoing modernization and sustainment of critical systems. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a classified environment are essential for success in this role, * Active Secret clearance

- Can comprehend existing C++ code and can make minor changes to it.
- Understands C++ subtleties and nuances, for example:
- Understands the differences between a reference, a pointer and a pointer to a reference
- Constant correctness
- Pass by value and reference.
- Understands C++ exception handling.
- Understands how to write TCP/IP code in C or C++ using sockets (not third party libraries). Has experience with C / C++ Makefiles and make facility to build source code.
