Information Technology Specialist II

The Employment Training Panel (ETP) is seeking an experienced and innovative Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) to serve as the Network Security Engineer for our Sacramento headquarters. Under the general direction of the Information Technology (IT) Manager I, the ITS II serves as the technical lead for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the Department’s enterprise network infrastructure and cybersecurity environment. This position is responsible for securing and maintaining critical network and security technologies, leading complex technical projects, responding to cybersecurity incidents, and recommending innovative solutions that strengthen the Department’s security posture and technology infrastructure. The successful candidate will collaborate with technical staff, executive leadership, business stakeholders, and vendors to implement secure, reliable, and resilient technology solutions that support the Department’s mission.

• Experience administering and supporting enterprise network infrastructure, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, wireless, and network security.
• Experience implementing and maintaining enterprise security technologies such as EDR/XDR, SIEM, vulnerability management, web filtering, identity and access management, and Microsoft 365 security.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, industry best practices, and security frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and Zero Trust Architecture.
• Experience responding to cybersecurity incidents, conducting vulnerability assessments, and implementing security controls to protect enterprise systems.
• Experience supporting Windows Server, Linux, VMware, cloud technologies, and scripting or automation tools.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead technical projects, and develop clear technical documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with technical staff, management, vendors, and customers.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service, continuous learning, and process improvement.
