Job description

This company is the reference in the market when it comes to mature, professional engineering. Working here means collaborating with like-minded people on complex technical challenges with lasting impact. No short-term gigs, no slow teams. You guide clients from A to Better with modern tech, clear processes and craftsmanship at every layer. Custom projects typically run up to 12-18 months so you can make real impact.

You work with the caliber of engineers you usually see on stage at conferences, people who raise your bar. Unlike most consultancies, this isn’t about billable hours or stuffing projects. It’s about technical depth, sustainable impact and doing work you’re proud of. You’ll operate as a tight squad (up to 4 days from home), where velocity comes from trust and shared standards.

The result? A learning environment where you accelerate both in technical depth and strategic thinking. Expect twice-monthly knowledge sessions and a €5.000 yearly training budget. People rarely leave; when they do, they join Big Tech, become CTOs at fast-growing startups, or launch their own ventures., As a Senior / Lead Polyglot JVM Software Engineer Utrecht you and your squad are hired to be the light bringers:architecture and design, modernizing software delivery, elevating engineering culture and amplifying impact for millions of end users.

You’ll work with the best tool for the job, Java, Kotlin, Scala, TypeScript and Go, across scalable microservices, CI/CD, event-driven architectures and cloud-native platforms.

You’ll always be in multidisciplinary teams where backend, frontend, cloud and data meet. No junior-heavy setups; a peer-level environment where everyone challenges and lifts each other.

Typical challenges you’ll touch: designing scalable API platforms for millions of users, modernizing legacy into event-driven microservices, and building internal developer-experience tooling so teams deliver faster with higher quality. From observability and testability to system design and team process, you’ll influence every layer of delivery.

Requirements

  • 5+ years professional experience as a JVM backend engineer (Java, Kotlin or Scala)
  • Curiosity to work polyglot (e.g. TypeScript, Go)
  • You are fluent in English and a solid communicator
  • Comfort with cloud-native development, microservices, CI/CD and testing
  • A technical bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • You write and run your own code by default
  • You value craftsmanship, communication and mentoring
  • A proven track record and hunger to learn and teach

Benefits & conditions

  • Are you the software engineer others naturally turn to, and do you want peers who challenge you back?
  • Do you want to build long-term software that truly moves companies forward while you grow at high speed?
  • Do you want an environment where engineering is a craft, not an afterthought?
  • So you say yes to four days WFH, a salary up to €93.000, a 5% annual bonus, a permanent contract and a €5.000 learning budget?
