Job description
Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer to support a leading government services organization within the defense industry. The Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer will serve as a senior-level technical resource responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure supporting mission-critical operations. This role requires an active TS/SCI Clearance and is onsite five days per week at Fort Meade.
Responsibilities of the Sr. Route/Switch Network Engineer:

Design, implement, and support large-scale enterprise routing and switching environments.

Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and associated technologies.

Perform advanced network analysis and resolve complex connectivity, performance, and availability issues.

Develop and maintain network automation scripts using Python to streamline operational processes and improve efficiency.

Utilize GitHub for version control, code management, and collaboration on automation initiatives.

Support network modernization efforts, technology refresh projects, and infrastructure upgrades.

Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems engineering, and operations teams to ensure secure and reliable network services.

Create and maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational procedures.
Requirements

Active TS/SCI Clearance required.

8+ years of experience supporting enterprise routing and switching environments.

Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching technologies.

Expertise with network protocols including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, and TCP/IP.

Experience developing automation and network management solutions using Python.

Proficiency with GitHub for source control and collaborative development practices.

Experience troubleshooting complex network issues in large-scale enterprise environments.

Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.

Cisco certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, or equivalent are preferred.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Benefits & conditions

Salary range: $170,000 - $190,000 depending on experience
