Job description
- Own end-to-end data architecture across transactional, analytical and reporting platforms.
- Design logical, conceptual and physical data models, schemas, data flows and integration patterns.
- Lead data migration, database modernisation and optimisation initiatives.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, data engineers and application teams.
- Define standards around data quality, metadata, lineage, security, retention and governance.
- Optimise database performance, indexing, partitioning, queries and data access patterns.
- Support data governance and master/reference data initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership, architecture guidance and design reviews.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced Data Architect with strong insurance domain experience to join a major insurance organisation in London.
This is a hands-on architecture role focused on designing, modernising and governing enterprise data platforms. You’ll need strong SQL/PostgreSQL, data modelling, migration and data governance experience, alongside a solid understanding of insurance data and processes., * Proven experience as a Data Architect, Database Architect or Senior Data Modeller.
- Mandatory insurance industry experience, covering areas such as:
- Policy administration/life cycle
- Claims
- Underwriting
- Billing
- Broker/intermediary data
- Risk/exposure
- Reinsurance
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, stored procedures, indexing, partitioning and performance tuning.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, optimisation, security, replication and high availability.
- Strong data modelling experience across operational and analytical environments.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL/ELT, data integration and data migration.
- Strong understanding of data governance, quality, metadata, lineage and security.
- Experience working with large, complex and highly regulated data environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- London Market experience is essential.
Desirable
- Experience with ACORD or equivalent insurance data standards.
- AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS or Google Cloud SQL.
- SQL Server - PostgreSQL migration and Legacy platform modernisation.
- Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Synapse or Fabric.
- Informatica, Talend, dbt, Airflow, SSIS, Glue or similar.
- Experience with insurance regulatory, privacy, retention and operational resilience requirements.
- Master/reference data management and golden-source design.
- CI/CD, DevOps/DataOps and automated database deployment.
- Experience leading architecture workshops and producing architecture documentation/ADRs.
