Job description

As a Senior Developer at dxw, you’ll design, build and improve digital services for the public good. You’ll work in multidisciplinary teams with clients at different stages of digital transformation, creating secure, reliable and accessible software that meets user needs.

This is a hands-on software development role. You’ll take a leading technical role on smaller projects, helping shape technical decisions and supporting other developers to deliver high-quality work. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, user researchers and delivery colleagues to understand problems and implement effective solutions.

Alongside client work, you’ll contribute to improving our internal tools, engineering practices and use of emerging technologies, including AI, where they can help us work more effectively and deliver better outcomes., Software development

  • Design, build and maintain production software for digital services.
  • Write clear, well-tested and maintainable code.
  • Contribute to technical decisions about architecture, tooling and implementation.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure software is secure, reliable and performant.

Technical leadership within teams

  • Act as the technical lead on smaller projects.
  • Support other developers through code review, pairing and knowledge sharing.
  • Help teams make sound technical decisions and manage trade-offs.
  • Maintain high engineering standards and sustainable ways of working.

Working in multidisciplinary teams

  • Collaborate with designers, user researchers, product managers and delivery leads.
  • Participate in user research sessions, workshops and other collaborative activities.
  • Ensure technical decisions are informed by user needs and service goals.
  • Explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues.

Contributing to practice

  • Help improve internal tools, development practices and team ways of working.
  • Participate in incident reviews, team forums and company-wide activities.
  • Share learning and contribute to the wider development community.
  • Support the responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI., As part of our process, we’ll ask you to provide written answers to a few short questions related to the work you’d do on the job.

Requirements

You’re an experienced software developer who enjoys solving complex problems and building services that improve people’s lives.

You:

  • Have significant experience developing production software.
  • Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code.
  • Have a strong understanding of version control tools such as Git.
  • Are comfortable working with unfamiliar technologies and learning quickly.
  • Understand secure software development practices.
  • Have experience supporting and guiding other developers.
  • Work effectively in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Enjoy variety and are comfortable working through ambiguity.
