Job description

We are looking for a GIS Technician to support a busy design and build team delivering GIS outputs across multiple projects. This is a data focused role, working with QGIS, ArcGIS, internal mapping tools and remote sensing data. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, editing, validating, and maintaining spatial data to support project delivery., The GIS Technician will be involved in a range of GIS data capture editing and quality assurance tasks.

  • Creating, editing, and maintaining spatial datasets using QGIS, ArcGIS, and RS.
  • Working with large GIS datasets across multiple projects and ensuring data is clean, accurate and fit for purpose
  • Capturing, digitising, and updating geographic features from a range of data sources
  • Performing spatial data checks, validation and quality assurance
  • Investigating and resolving data issues, inconsistencies, gaps and errors
  • Using QGIS to manipulate, transform and prepare spatial data for project use
  • Following agreed workflows, naming conventions, data standards, and project documentation

Requirements

This role would suit someone with at least 6 months commercial GIS experience, a strong eye for detail and a genuine interest in working with geospatial data., * 6 months’ commercial GIS experience

  • A degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Planning or related discipline
  • Practical experience using QGIS and ArcGIS
  • Good understanding of GIS data capture, editing, manipulation
  • Experience working with spatial data formats and GIS data standards
  • Ability to work accurately with large datasets and follow structured workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of data accuracy
  • Ability to identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work remotely as part of a wider project team
