Job description

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is seeking a Learning Technology Specialist and Mobile Simulation Lab Operator/Driver to support the READY RURAL initiative and its innovative mobile healthcare simulation program. This unique position combines safe operation and transportation of the READY RURAL Mobile Simulation Lab with hands-on simulation and learning technology support in rural communities.

As a key member of the READY RURAL team, the majority of your work while on site will focus on supporting simulation activities, including setting up and operating simulation equipment, telehealth and Virtual Care technology, audiovisual systems, and other instructional technologies. You will work directly with faculty, staff, learners, healthcare partners, and workforce participants to ensure mobile simulation experiences are ready, accessible, and technically supported.

The position will also be responsible for safely driving and transporting the Mobile Simulation Lab to campus, healthcare, school, community, and rural partner locations. Responsibilities include conducting vehicle and equipment inspections, maintaining transportation and deployment records, coordinating basic site logistics, and ensuring equipment is safely loaded, secured, and ready for deployment.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventories, inspecting and cleaning simulation equipment, troubleshooting basic technology issues, documenting equipment readiness, and identifying maintenance or supply needs. The successful candidate will bring strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, comfort working with technology and equipment, and the ability to provide excellent hands-on support in a variety of field-based environments., * Provides support for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and disseminating data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness

  • Assists with the design and development of multimedia learning materials

  • Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning

  • Provides support for faculty development and engagement programs and activities

  • Assists with providing basic training and technical support to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums

  • Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials

  • Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms

  • Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology, educational technology, information technology, healthcare technology, simulation operations, transportation, logistics, or related field.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and eligible to be an authorized driver through UW System.
  • Experience operating vehicles, trailers, RVs, service vehicles, mobile units, or related equipment.
  • Experience setting up, maintaining, or troubleshooting equipment, technology, audiovisual tools, healthcare training equipment, or instructional technology.
  • Ability to lift, move, load, unload, and set up equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to travel throughout Wisconsin and work occasional evening, weekend, or overnight deployment schedules as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting simulation-based education, telehealth, Virtual Care, remote patient monitoring, audiovisual systems, learning technology, or mobile training environments.
  • Experience providing technical support to learners, faculty, instructors, or end users.
  • Experience with inventory systems, asset tracking, vehicle maintenance coordination, or equipment lifecycle documentation.
  • Commercial Driver’s License or experience driving specialty vehicles, mobile labs, trailers, or large service vehicles.

  • Health plans, currently starting at $45 per month.
  • 176 hours of vacation per year (prorated for start date).
  • 36 hours of personal holiday, and 9 legal holidays (prorated for start date).
  • 176 Hours of sick leave for first 18 months. After this period, employees can earn up to 96 hours per fiscal year. Accumulates without limit and does not expire.
  • Paid parental leave after six months of continuous employment.
  • Wisconsin Retirement System (pension) with 7.2% employer contribution for 2026.

This position is funded through the READY RURAL grant and is initially offered as a one-year fixed-term appointment. The appointment is renewable annually for up to four years, contingent upon continued grant funding, satisfactory performance, and program needs., Starting at $53,000 commensurate with experience
