Job description

At Evri, we’ve spent the last year laying strong foundations for the next phase of our Engineering and Delivery journey. We operate at genuine scale - supporting complex customer, courier and client needs - creating an environment where engineering leaders solve meaningful, high-impact problems every day.

Now, we’re evolving.

Not through wholesale reinvention, but through deliberate, focused change: strengthening how we operate as an engineering org, how teams deliver value, and how leadership drives consistent outcomes.

This is a pivotal moment - and a critical leadership role.

This is a remote role with travel into Morley when required., As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, reporting to the Head of Engineering & Assurance, you will lead a group of Software Engineering Managers and Delivery Managers across one or more domains.

You will operate at a system level - developing leadership capability, shaping how teams work, and driving measurable improvements in delivery performance, engineering quality, and organisational effectiveness.

This is a role focused on leading leaders, influencing at scale, and creating the conditions for high-performing, outcome-focused engineering teams.

Why now?

We’re focused on:

  • Strengthening product-aligned teams with clear ownership and accountability
  • Scaling leadership capability and creating consistency across domains
  • Embedding a new career framework that supports growth, clarity and progression
  • Advancing our flow-based delivery model to improve predictability, efficiency and outcomes
  • Increasing our focus on engineering quality, assurance, and resilience at scale

Strong foundations are already in place. The next phase is about scaling impact, improving system performance, and building leadership capability across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

Lead leaders and build organisational capability

  • Line manage and develop Software Engineering Managers and Delivery Managers, building a strong leadership pipeline
  • Embed consistent, high-quality people practices across hiring, development, performance and succession
  • Coach leaders to operate effectively across delivery, people, and organisational complexity

Drive system-level delivery performance

  • Own delivery performance across domains, driving measurable improvements by utilising data-driven insights across our key metrics:
  • DORA metrics
  • Flow metrics
  • Quality metrics
  • Identify and remove systemic constraints across the end-to-end value stream, not just within individual teams

Embed flow-based, data-driven ways of working

  • Advance adoption of flow-based delivery, using data to diagnose issues and drive continuous improvement
  • Establish a culture of evidence-based decision making, using meaningful metrics to guide actions and measure impact

Partner across engineering to deliver outcomes

  • Work closely with Staff Engineers, Product and Architecture to align technology, people and delivery strategy
  • Ensure the right balance of technical direction, delivery focus and team capability

Strengthen engineering quality, assurance and resilience

  • Ensure strong engineering standards, quality practices and technical assurance are embedded across teams
  • Maintain a focus on risk, resilience, and secure delivery, in line with organisational expectations

Shape organisation design and scaling decisions

  • Influence how engineering evolves - team structures, domain ownership, and scaling models
  • Provide clear, data-driven insight into delivery health, capability, and organisational performance

Requirements

Do you have experience in Mentoring?, * Proven experience leading engineering managers and multiple teams at scale

  • Strong track record of building leadership capability and high-performing engineering organisations
  • Experience operating at a system level, improving outcomes across multiple teams or domains
  • Strong understanding of flow-based or similar delivery models, with a focus on measurable outcomes
  • Ability to use data and metrics to drive decision making and continuous improvement
  • Solid grounding in modern engineering practices, Agile delivery and DevOps principles
  • Experience balancing strategic leadership with hands-on awareness of delivery and team health
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and stakeholder leadership skills
  • Passion for building inclusive, high-performing, outcome-focused environments
