Job description

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position assigned to a First Shift schedule, with standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in your local time zone. Business needs may occasionally require flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice provided when possible., Applicants who live within 35 miles of either the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in-office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility., * Design and build tools that define, store, and provide meaningful variant, sample, and test level information to supportaccuratevariant interpretation and report generation

  • Develop andmaintainsystems that translate raw bioinformatic data into variant and sample level information, including registration, normalization, observation groups, and quality metrics
  • Scale andoptimizestorage of sample level information to support growing data needs
  • Source,maintain, and provide annotations at the variant level necessary foraccuratevariant interpretation
  • Automate evidence placement and classification for variant interpretation
  • Support test content and assay development initiatives
  • Collaborate with data scientists, variant scientists, and software developers to design and implement solutions that meet stakeholder requirements, * Owns and delivers product or platform goals across multiple years and teams, setting a high standard for technical outcomes and delivery
  • Defines the vision, scope, and technical approach for large, business-impacting projects with organization-wide implications
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and drives solutions to ambiguous, open-ended problems across multiple teams
  • Influences the roadmaps of partner teams to align with and achieve broader business goals
  • Serves as a role model and technical authority for engineers across multiple teams
  • Effective verbal and written communicator with both scientific and non-scientific audiences
  • Effective with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or similar LLM tools to accelerate coding, testing and documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years of recent professional software development experience
  • 10 or more years of experience with Python (intermediate level or higher)
  • 10 or more years of experience with relational databases and web development frameworks
  • 10 or more years of experience with front-end technologies (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML/CSS)
  • 10 or more years of experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
  • 10 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • 10 or more years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), * Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or life sciences
  • 8 or more years of experience mentoring and developing senior and junior engineers across multiple teams
  • 8 or more years of experience defining technical vision and driving multi-year roadmaps
  • 3 or more years of experience with bioinformatic tools and annotation
  • 3 or more years of experience with variant databases and genomic data resources (e.g.,ClinVar,gnomAD, HGMD)
  • 3 or more years of experience in Spark, text mining, natural language processing, semantic enrichment, ontologies, data mining, or machine learning/AI
  • 3 or more years of experience with public-domain biomedical terminologies (e.g.,MeSH, NCIt, HGNC)
  • 3 or more years of experience translating complex scientific questions into information solutions
  • Current or prior Labcorp experience

Benefits & conditions

Pay Range: $100K - $198K/yr

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

LBP Only: The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
